Doolin Accomodation Recommendations?

I tacked this question onto one of my own threads, and I'm thinking it will get lost!

If you were in Doolin, where did you stay? What were the highlights? What were the cons? What would you do differently?

I've stayed at:

Atlantic Sunset: pros: Nice hostess great breakfast; cons: must drive to town. There may be a room with a view but ours didn't

Drumkerrin: pros: easy walk to pubs, nice hostess; cons: faily basic accommodation

Atlantic View House: pros: great view, close to Doolin pier for day trips to Arans (owned by the family that runs the ferries); plenty of rooms. cons: long walk to town. would want to drive if the weather wasn't good. might want to drive anyway. A little more expensive as it's a guest house, not quite as personal.

We are staying at Atlantic View again 3 weeks from Friday.

Great information, Bill. How long of a walk to town would you estimate?

Bill: I'm curious - when are you going to Ireland? We are flying out there on May 7; our first trip to Ireland. Your feedback has been very helpful.

I have also stayed at the Seaview B&B. It is a charming place, ideally located just across the stream from the thriving metropolis of Doolin. Our room overlooked the town and was nicely decorated. The family are lovely and the full Irish breakfast was wonderful. Highlights? Standing shoulder to shoulder in the tiny pubs, listening to music, drinking Irish coffee and guinness, dancing and feeling like we belonged. An early morning walk along the windswept roads along the coast, past cows, castles and wild surf. Just loved it and would not do anything differently.

I ended up booking the Sea View. Just making the reservations made me look forward to the trip--such a pleasant, kind owner.

We are off to Ireland next Wed. (the 27th). We're taking the Aer Lingus evening flight LAX-DUB then DUB-SNN.
We are staying the first night at Sea View House...sounds great....2nd night at Carrabaun House in Westport....and from 3rd night (4/30) until 5/6 at Spellmans Motel in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon, and 5/7 at The Great Southern at Shannon for early morning flight on 5/8.
Looking forward to hearing some great music in Doolin, seeing Croagh Patrick again, and visiting with my mom in Ballaghaderreen who lives there.
Sea View House in Doolin sounds great-I am sure it will be.

I can recommend Daly's House. We had a very nice, spacious room. It was lovely.

Eat at McGann's. We had the best Irish stew there, and the seafood chowder was also very good.

For those interested in self-catering accommodation, we stayed in Ballyvara Farmhouse, just a couple hundred yards from Gus O'Connor's pub. Of course, you have to rent week-to-week, but it was a fun place to be, especially if you're not in Doolin right in the middle of the summer, the heavy tourist time. The price was quite reasonable, and the owner's family has owned the house for over 150 years.

Sorry, Have been a bit busy in past days. The Sea View is an excellent choice. It's sometimes very difficult to get in to it. They book up very fast, especially on weekends.

Jenbirds:
I'll be landing May 13. I'm traveling with a group of friends this year. We'll see what happens. Something strange no doubt. I'm glad my info has helped.

How far is the Sea View from the main part of town? Can you walk there or do you have to drive. I am looking for something in walking distance incase I have a few to many drinks.

hey survfan,
I would take the Sea View. They seem to be within walking distance and ALOT of reccomendations here for them. If it's for a weekend they may already be booked. I tried for a Saturday nite at end of October 6 months early and they were booked. Check their website...

if booked you might try Daley's House and also Cullinan's in Doolin as both have also been mentioned in a few trip reports and posts.
Good Luck!

We DID stay at the Seaview house-late April and it was lovely....right across from the section of town that has Gus O'Connors. Darra, the hostess was very nice and the room was clean and very nice as well. I would recommend it.

Ditto for Seaview. We stayed there two years ago. It is right in the town of Doolin. Doolin is very small. Great pub right across the way. Hostess was very kind.

Just got back from 2 weeks in Ireland. Stayed in Doolin 2 nights before flying out of Shannon. Stayed at Cullinan's Guest House. The only B&B we stayed at in Ireland which had pancakes for breakfast. They were served with a slice of lemon and honey. There were delicious! Doolin has a lower village where Gus O'Conner's Pub is and a half a dozen shops or so and the Upper Village which has 2 pubs. When you leave the lower village you round a corner, cross over a small bridge, pass McGann's Pub and then McDermott's. We sat outside McDermott's one evening only to see a small herd of cows being herded right in front of the pub! People were walking up and down the road between the lower and upper village at all times. Cullinan's is in between the upper and lower village. We took a day trip to the Aran Islands. I would highly recommend it!

We are leaving for Ireland Sept 2. Could someone tell me how the weather might be as it is our first time going. How are the prices for rooms. Are they really per person or is it two people to a room? We are renting a car and are going to be staying coastal for our trip around the island. Any ideas? Heard Kinsail is beautiful.
Waiting to hear from you...Thanks, lohtburkhart

Coincidentally, my wife and I spent our first honeymoon night in Ireland on Sept. 2, 1991. Ireland was experiencing a heat wave at the time- low 80s and very low humidity, perfect weather for Americans. And Kinsale is a lovely town.

The only thing I would have doe differently on my recent first-time trip to Ireland, would be to eliminate Doolin from the itinerary. It was mobbed with tourists (between the new campgrounds, B&Bs, hotels, guesthouses) and there are not enough restaurants, pubs for everyone! We had lovely walks and enjoyed our dinner at Gus O'Connors, but the town was overrun with humanity. Unless one wanted to go to the pubs hours before the music started to get a seat, the only room was outside. Unfortunately, no music could be heard there. I would have rather spent an additional day in Dingle. I loved my time in Ireland and this is the only thing I would have changed.
