Do people really wash baby's in Bidets?

I saw the pictures in this article and couldn't help googling more similar images. There seem to be a lot of them...is this really what bidets are used for sometimes?

I will admit to having done it....also to having filled it with ice to chill champagne....and soaked feet in it after a long day on the cobblestones.

I always thought that the purpose of the bidet was for feet soaking at the end of the day. Who knew it had so many other uses!

Now hold on...I can see chilling wine in it but washing your baby there? Too much like bathing them in the toilet. I think I would squeeze my kid in the sink somehow or give him or her a sponge bath.

A lot of European sinks are so small you'd eviscerate the baby with the water spout.

I don't see much difference between using a bidet and a bathtub.

Nolefan1, it's only like washing your kid in the toilet if you use the bidet like a toilet and that's not it's intended purpose. Though I'm sure many have used it as such but may not admit it.

What's the difference between washing a kid in a bathtub versus washing a kid in a bidet? A bidet is for washing (private parts) and so is a bathtub.

Thanks for posting that SusanP. It reaffirmed my stance on not putting my child in a vessel that is used to hose off urine & excrement and other bodily secretions from the nether regions.

But hey...different strokes, do with your child as you wish!

<also to having filled it with ice to chill champagne> . . . oh yummy, perhaps next time you'll share that you used the toliet to keep the bottled water cool?

People do all sorts of things we'd rather not think about.

A friend of mine ripped a wash basin off the wall of a one star hotel in Paris when she--not wanting to go down the hall to the bathroom--used it as a urinal.

It made quite a thud.

I think it's funny that people are appalled at the idea of someone washing a baby in a bidet but NOT in a bathtub. Is there any part of the body that's been washed in a bidet that has not also been washed or "soaked" in a bathtub? I assume both are washed or rinsed out between uses. What is the difference?

When someone says it's like washing a baby in a toilet, what on earth do YOU do in a bidet?

To Happytrailstoyou

A hotel cleaning lady once told me that the guest room coffee makers are sometimes used for the same purpose. I wish she had not told me that. I haven't made coffee in a hotel room since. Geez, I really like coffee too.

The first time we went to Europe, our DS was 4 and thought the bidet was a "pee toilet". So yeah, just another wierd use for it, lol!
