Distances Between Cities
Will be going to Germany next year and preparing to make reservations. Will visit the Mosel area. Need to decide if we should fly into Frankfurt or Luxemborg (via Brussels). Where on the Internet can I find highway distances between Brussels and Luxemborg; Luxemborg and Trier; Frankfurt and Traben-Trarbach or can anyone out there answer the questions? Appreciate some help.
Sally, Go to www.euroshell.com, they have distances, direct or scenic routes and written directions.
Sally,
A couple of thoughts! Don't know where you'll be flying from, but investigate Icelandair (Iceland's national airline). It flies direct to Luxembourg airport, offers excellent on board service and a free overnight in Rekyavik with a half day tour of Iceland. Best of all, its rates are lower than most other international carriers. Luxembourg airport, by the way is great! Small and uncongested. You'll clear the airport in ten minutes and can walk across one road to the parking lot. It's about a two/two and a half hour drive from Brussels to Luxembourg (211km) ; Trier is immediately east northeast of Luxembourg, under 60 km distant. Traben-Trarbach is about 100 km from Luxembourg; considerably more from Traben-Trarbach to Frankfurt.
The website: www.route66.nl also offers routing; it will give you mileage, time and fuel usage as well.

Sally and Wes: Icelandair is a good call , but please be aware that effective January 9, 1999, will eliminate the Luxembourg service in order to redirect its emphasis on travel to Europe to travel between Paris and Frankfurt. The Luxembourg route was 40 years old, so it is a major move. Icelandair operations at JFK will be handled by British Airways.
If you would like more info, contact Ms. Debbie Scott, Manager, Media & Public Relations for North America, of Icelandair, 410-715-5153, fax 3547, or better yet, 1- 800-757-7242, ext. 153.

BTW, euroshell is a great call. It does require some manipulation, but the output is worth the try!!

(24 Aug 1998 18:48 EDT)

the euoshell recommendation was a good call.
