Derry to Glenveagh Park to Donegal -- too much in one day?
Hi there,
I'm trying to sort out if it's too much all in one day to drive from our Derry B&B in the morning to Glenveagh Park and spend a couple of hours hiking around and then drive to Donegal Town for the night.
Or another option is carry on the short distance from the park to Bunbeg, stay overnight and drive down the N56 to Donegal.
I appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks!

You have probably 3 hours behind the wheel of the car Derry to Donegal. But it depends where in the NP you intend to hike whether going back to the 65 or over to the 56 makes more sense onwards to Donegal?

Hi Tony2phones,
We'll probably stop by the NP's visitor centre, walk around the castle and do the lake or glen hike for a couple of hours.
If we opt for Bunbeg and the N56, is it a challenging road for a couple of right-side drivers? We thought we'd make a day of it, heading south to Glencolumbkille and into Donegal that way.
Or we could scoot south on the N15 and trim our time in the north by a night.
Thanks for all your help. It's really making a difference to our trip planning.
Cheers.

The only thing that Irish roads challenge is a persons self confidence not their driving,,
To be honest last time I drove the N56 was 7 years ago just before Christmas in a howling snowstorm, now that was a challange,, At the time I was working on the principle getting to Donegal was easier than back up to Dunfanaghy.
Glencolumbkille is a long way west of the main drag, had to look it up! Possibly on a coastal loop from Adara past the Slieves but not sure what you might want out there?

Sorry for the late reply, Tony2phones. My work got in the way of the fun stuff.
I thought of including Glencolumbkille for that "ends of the earth" experience, but mostly because it would loop us past the Slieves. I found the EveryTrail online that describes a coastal drive that looked interesting. But given that it will already be a long day, it's probably best if we simply drive south from Ardara to Killbegs and into Donegal.
Thanks for the help. Hopefully, we'll avoid a snowstorm in late June, but I'm packing the merino wool just in case.
