Daytrips fromBrussels?

Hello! My toddler and I are tagging along on my husband's business trip to Europe next month. One of our stops is in Brussels. Can anyone recommend any good, easy day trips from Brussels? We spent a wonderful 10 days in Luxembourg and 3 days in Brugges a few years ago, so one of those spots is probably on the agenda, and, as two saxophonists, we enjoyed walking around Dinant, Belgium (birthplace of Adolphe Sax). Where else should we go? We enjoy wandering, finding the narrowest roads we can find, wine tasting, and seeing local crafts. Our son likes, well, trucks, trains, airplanes, boats and machinery.

Any help would be wonderful! Thank you!

I suggest Antwerp.
Half an hour by train. Easy to walk around from the station. The weather should still be nice enough to take a cruise around the harbour. Lots of museums your son will enjoy as well.

Hi Mia.
If you want to see other things than always cities, you can go to the colemines of Blégny (Liège). It is an old minesite where you will be guided by guides who once worked in the mine. Very interesting. The "Grottes de Han" in Han sur Lesse are also very beautiful. The railways sell special day tickets for trips (http://www.b-rail.be/mvn/E/excusions/index.html)
Or you can go to the sea for one day. Oostende is a nice town and there is also a lot to see there.
Another (little)town that you will certainly like is SPA (where the famous Belgian water comes from)It is a typical thermal town in the east of Belgium and I do very like it., There you can visit the springs and do beautiful walks. There are also nice shops, and when you would go, go on a Tuesday, because than is the market.

Thank you for your suggestions! I particularly like the coal mine suggestions - we'll have to check that out! Any other good day trips?

Hi Mia
Go to the site http://www.blegnymine.be/
You can choose the translation in English.
There is also more to do around the mine: you can go down in the mine, witch is the most important (special clothes and helmets are provided), visit the audiovisual museum (very, very good),there is a touristic train and for the children there is a playground. There is also a restaurant and a little snack . You can also do a walk around the terril. Of course you are not obliged to do all that.
I would advice you to ask if you will have an old guide. They are the best because they worked there, they can tell you anecdotes and they often make jokes.
You can also have an English guided tour. Have a nice time in Belgium.

Martine
If you like the beach & mussels you can't beat Oostende. It is very inexpensive & may give some good relaxation time before returning home.
