day trips from Barcelona
I will be in Barcelona for 1 week this summer. I would like to take 2 or 3 day trips. I am planning 1 day trip to Girona. Is there anough to do in Girona for the day? More importantly I am looking for other day trips from Barcelona. Suggestions?

A great side trip would be to Collioure along the French coast just above Spain. It is a very picturesque little village where Henri Mattisse did some of his painting. I don't know whether there's train or bus service to there but we drove it in about an hour and a half.

We went to Monserrat for the day. It a great trip and offer you a chance to stroll or hike in the mountains and take in all the great views. You can even eat at a restaurant, buy food for a picnic in the small store or simply have lunch at a snack bar while you are here. It a nice break to get away from the city and tour this monestary in the sky. I have pic at--

Assuming you're planning on driving, how about a day trip to towns in the Pyrenees? The Spanish- French border towns, including Puigcerda, La Seu d'Urgell, Ripoll, Llivia, etc. are all serene towns with the mountain range and valley as dramatic backdrops. At most this is about a couple of hours drive.

You can visit the cava (the local variety of champagne) wineries near Barcelona. One is Freixenet:

Another is Cordorniu. Both are located outside of Barcelona in Sant Sadurni D'Noia, the Penedés wine region, and both give tours (and tasting!)
I haven't been there yet, but we're planning to go in about 10 days, and I'll report back about how it is.

Hi there, have the same issue. I am planning on going to Girona and wanted some advice, but all the comments so far are on other destinations.
Can someone just please inform me on Girona...is it easier to take the bus or train from Barcelona?
Is is lovely at night or should we do just a day trip?
Thanks in advance for all Girona-related info!

There is frequent daily rail service (as many as 24+ departures/arrivals) to/from Barcelona (either Sants or Passeig de Gracia stations) to/from Girona. The trip takes between 1 hr and 16 to 22 minutes depending on the time of day you leave.
