Thinking of a few day visit to Cornwall after an initial stay in London. Any information you would like to share. Will be going this October from 2nd to 7th.

Roger, lucky you!! Cornwall is one of my favorite places in the UK. You can visit Mt. St. Micheal which is a castle still lived in, you can get a boat ride from Penzance. Eat Pasties (I like vegetarian ones) .... If you are interested in Celtic History you will find a ton to do in Cornwall. Have a marvelous trip.

St Ives is located near the end of the Cornish peninsula, so expect a fairly long journey from London (about 4 hours by train, 5 to 6 by car), you'll need to consiider whether a few days justifies the jourmey. St Ives is a very attractive small town with lots of quaint cottages, pubs and restaurants. It is fairly commercialised, but the summer crowds will have long departed by the time you get there in October. <BR> <BR>Things to see incude an outpost of the Tate Gallery, Barbara Hepworth's house, day trip to Lands End (v. tacky though), the Minnack Theatre (open air, great atmosphere) and of course walking along the dramatic clifftop coastline. <BR> <BR> <BR>

Thanks for the input. I did check out the train site and know it will be a bit of a haul, but my wife and enjoy the train. Just looking for some quiet time with some walking. Will either take the train to Penzance or rent a car for a day or two. Any specific special places we should visit. Thanks again.

I also liked Mousehole (smallest port I have seen) and there is a pre roman 'village' there somewhere. My lasting impession of St. Ives is sweater shop, fudge shop, icecream shop, sweater shop, fudge shop........................All English tourists though, Foreign tourists really thin out beyond a 'daytrips' distance from London.
