Concorde?

I realize there is an "airlines" forum, but few visit it, so I'll post here.

Does anyone have the latest scoop on the return of the Concorde? I'm looking forward to flying it.

Cheers,

Earnest

I believe Air France has recently forecast a return to service this fall.

There has been some work done on the fuel tanks to make them less susceptible to foreign object damage (FOD)and the tire manufacturer (Michelin?) has a new tire design in place that makes them less susceptible to FOD.

Whether fall or not, one suspects "soon".

twenj

Recent news reports say that the aim is for BA to start service again in September, followed shortly thereafter by Air France.... they have done several test flights from Paris to an air force base in Istres (not far from where I live) and everything appears to be a 'go'.

I wouldn't mind flying it myself... now I just have to russle up about $10,000 for the fare. My husband flew it once and said it was like flying in a cigar tube.

PB

As has already been said, BA are planning on resuming a service in September, although details of that service have not yet been released (ie will it be back to the old 2 flights a day each way to NY, or just 1 flight each way to start with). So far, only 1 BA concorde has had the work completed - I was lucky enough to see it fly past just after take off on its test flight 2 weeks ago. It will take time for the rest of the fleet to be completed, so I suspect that it will not be back to normal service for a while yet.

If you can't afford the fare, just get a job with British Airways! Then you can fly Concorde for only a few hundred pounds one way. Still not cheap, but worth it for the experience. My fiance used to work for them, and we did just that.

Concorde training is starting very soon at Shannon Airport so BA are determined to resume flights to New York.
