Candy-
We were in Colmar in July, and we stayed at the Hotel Le Rapp. We found the location to be very convenient. It was within walking distance of all of the major attractions, restaurants, and was in the "old" part of the town. The room was clean, but a bit on the small side. The hotel has a nice indoor pool, sauna, and Turkish bath steam room. We ate in the hotel restaurant one night, and it ended up being our best meal in France!

Hotel St. Martin.
Stayed there 2 years ago. Excellent location - middle of old town and restaurants. Nice, clean, pleasant rooms. Here's a website for Alsace hotels:
www.alsanet.com/alsace_hotels

If you're not looking for fancy:
Hotel St Martin
38, Grand Rue
68000 Colmar
Alsace, France
Tel: 011-33-3-89-24-11-51
Fax: 011-33-3 89 23 47 78
Right in the heart of the old town. If you get a room on the Grande Rue (sur la Grande Rue) you'll have a wonderful view of the square there. Not a luxurious place - very moderate - many people have stayed there and loved it. Colmar is just a wonderful town to stay in. Each day drive a bit north and visit all those little towns. - Riquewihr, Ribeauville, others. Very easy driving through small roads that snake through the vineyards. Got to have lunch of Choucroute and a bottle of Riesling.
We stayed at abt. 15km from Colmar in Munster in hotel Verte Vallée and can highly recommend it. Very quiet location, spacious rooms with all modern facilities (incl. A/C which we really needed in July), extensive buffet breakfast, etc. Look at their website: http://www.verte-vallee.com or at my pictures on http://http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/.125633/1045/

Candy,

Just to add to other's comments, we stayed at Hotel Saint-Martin in 1999 and were very pleased with the hotel. They have a breakfast buffet but I believe there was an additional costs for that (minimal). The location was terrific. There is a cafe across the street that serves very large beers! You can walk to all of the sights in Colmar from the hotel. We did not have a car during our stay there, I think the hike from the train station would have been more comfortable by cab.

Our original intent was to do the La Route des Vins D'Alsaces, but Hertz decided to close the day we were supposed to pick up our car. We did take a cab to Eugisheim and really enjoyed that day trip.

I too stayed at the Hotel St. Martin. There are several prices for the rooms. For the small price extra for the newer and more expensive rooms, they are really much nicer than the older rooms and worth the cost. Great location for Colmar and as a base for the Alsace area.
Ellen
