cave touring

we want to explore some of the best caves in Dordogne and Languedoc but I am afraid that my wife's fear of heights may cause a problem for her.

what caves would have no or little high broadwalks, paths etc for her??

To clarify the problem - she fears walking up to the cave? or is it a fear of a scaffold or something within the cave?
Generally caves with cave drawings go down once you are in them... and usually gradually.
Caves that specialize in stalactites or stalagmites can be a bit more grand.

Hi D,

My Lady Wife suffers from vertigo.

She was able to visit Lascaux II, Peche Merle, Rouffignac and Font de Gaume with no trouble.

Someone bolted from Lascaux II (a simulated cave) when were there but surely that would be claustrophobia. The walk up to the entrance to Font de Gaume is rather steep.
All of the "cave drawing caves" tend to be darkish.
We found that one of the caves in Lot area was so expansive, long and "way down" as well as along narrow, suspended paths, that we were tense. Not so with cave drawing caves.

As noted, it's a fairly steep climb up to the entrance to Font-de-Gaume.

Lascaux II should be no problem. The area around the entrance to the cave is just a sort of rocky forest clearing.

Rouffignaac also not a problem.

Les Combarelles not a problem.

Grand Roc - stairs and somewhat steep walk to the entrance from the parking lot.

Bara-Bahau - steep climb to the entrance.

Castel-Merle - not a problem.

Gouffre de Padirac - problem.

Roque St-Christophe - problem.
