Myra--I don't know where you are going or where you are coming from, so I don't know which way from Castelrotto is best for you to go to get a hotel. But if you will try in Ortisei, a lovely village in the Val Gardena not too far from Castelrotto, there are lots of hotels and B&B's. For mid-range, try hotels Grien, La Perla, or Fortuna--all nice 3 star type. For luxury, try the Adler or the Luna-Mondschein. In Castelrotto, I don't know if you are aware of the Villa Gabriela, a couple of miles north of the town, phone 0471-700077. Also in town you might try a hotel about the same type and quality as the Cavallino d'Oro, and that is the Alpenflora, phone 0471-706326. Good luck.

I had the same problem trying to book the Cavallino D Oro for the end of August (and I was trying that this past November!). After a couple of suggestions here I have booked the Post Hotel Lamm in Castelrotto. I found their website via Google and booked directly with them at a rate of 154 Euros bed and breakfast. Perhaps it comes down a bit in September?

Myra---I honestly don't know if the hotels have a web site, but I can get phone and fax numbers for all those I named. If you have a fax machine, it might be a good way to contact them. Let me know if you need numbers for any of those I named, whether in Ortisei or Castelrotto. If you haven't used the Italian Tourist Agency web site before, you can also go to www.itwg.com and type in the dates and the city you need hotels in--and they will show whether the hotels have a web site, or at least they will show phone and fax numbers. By the way, having driven all around the Dolomites, I might put in a plug for driving through Ortisei and on through the Val Gardena to Corvara, then eventually to Cortina d'Ampezzo. I like that route better than the classic Dolomites route that everyone recommends. Good luck.

In May 1999, we spent 6 days at Albergo al Lupo Hotel in Castelrotto. we were on an Elderhostel walking program, so I don't know the cost. However, it was a
3 star hotel with good accommodations and great food. It was in the heart of town. Phone: 011-39-471-706332,
Fax: 011-39-471-707030
