Can't find flights from Oslo or Bergen to Munich
Help Fodorites!
I am trying to find some flights from either Bergen (preferred) or Oslo (2nd choice) to Munich in early June 2005. I have found $30 fares from Oslo to Frankfurt on Ryan Air and I have found a ridiculously expensive flight from Oslo to Munich on Lufthansa for $1,000.
Has anyone done this particular leg or is there anyone out there that can give me a list of budget airlines that might make that trek?
Whichbudget.com shows no airlines flying from Norway to Munich at all.
Thanks!

There may not be a budget option, but check http://www.opodo.com just in case.
This next option may sound silly, but it depends how much time you have. You could take http://www.norwegian.no to either Berlin (not sure how far from Munich by train) or Venice (I think 4 hours by train).
Or just go through London with two flights, but allow lots and lots of time, because there would be no connection privileges at all should the first flight be late.

I checked Europebyair, and I don't see a route between Oslo and Munich.
But you can try Germanwings -- it looks like you need to connect through Cologne.

Actually it looks like the Ryanair flight between Frankfurt and Oslo is a good deal. It doesn't look like the option on Germanwings is (necessarily?) any better. Did you check the rail connections between Frankfurt and Munich?
Looks like you can fly between Oslo and Bergen via Norwegian Air:

Thanks for the quick replies.
I just checked the itasoftware.com site as well and it also doesn't show a economical and logistically sane way to go from Oslo to Munich.
I think the cheap Ryan Air flight to Frankfurt is the best I can do and then either find another quick hop to Munich (was VERY surprised to not see a Frankfurt-Munich flight on whichbudget.com...?) or take the dang train.
Frustrating.

I remember looking at Frankfurt to Munich a while ago. I don't think that there're any cheap airlines that fly that route, and the fares on Lufthansa will scare you.
I forget how long the train is though between the two.
If the train is too long, it looks like Germanwings flies between Cologne and Munich (see above), and you can a take a fast train between FRA and Cologne that will take an hour and that has frequent connections. So it may cut some time off your travel.

offwego,
Forget about Ryanair! Both their "Oslo" and "Frankfurt" airports are in the middle of nowhere - this would be a huge expedition!
This isn't perfect, but at least it's a start...
Norwegian can fly you from Bergen to London Stansted and from there you can fly EasyJet onwards to Munich.
It's far from ideal, as there is a looong layover in Munich and you will be flying on 2 separate tickets, so in case of major schedule changes or delays/cancellations you could be SOL, but at least it should get you from A to B within a day.
That said, I'm basing myself on the current winther schedules, since flights on EasyJet are only bookable through March 2005 at this point. So it is possible that the timing of the Stansted to Munich flights will change for June departures.
Alternately, check if you cannot lower the Lufthansa fare by pretending to take a round trip (including a Sat. night stay) - this is generally cheaper than a one-way fare. You can just throw out the unused portion of your ticket. And try the same thing on SAS - both of these carriers should be able to get you from Bergen to Munich for a similar price as from Oslo BTW.

Hope this helps,

I did not find it that big an expedition to get to Torp airport from Oslo. I had read of cases where the bus was late resulting in disaster, and it was essential I get there on time. So I took an earlier train to Sandefjord, and then took the taxi (160 NOK) to Torp airport. Very easy and not that time-consuming. I think the bus takes about 90 minutes or so from the central station in Oslo.
From what I've read the situation is similar in Frankfurt-Hahn.
Of course I'm not necessarily recommending that the original poster go Oslo/Torp-Hahn/Frankfurt-train-Munich. It would be a long day at the very best.

Just remember that Ryanair doesn't fly to Frankfurt.
It flies to Hahn, which is slightly - just slightly - nearer to Frankfurt than it is to Oslo.
Ryanair from Oslo Torp to Stansted connecting with Easyjet to Munich, or Germanwings to Cologne connecting with Deutsche BA to Munich are probably your best bets.
As, generally, is intelligent use of www.flybudget.com for these problems.

You guys are scaring me! I'm going to have my mom and dad in tow!
OK Thanks Andre for the tip on fares for round trip. That's a good tip and I will check.
Maybe I should just rent a car from Hahn since I was going to rent one in Munich anyway.

I think the London route might be best. Always the possibility of getting screwed with connections switching airlines but there are worse things than an overnighter in London!

I can't believe this. One month ago my wife went from Oslo to Munich with SAS/KLM for around NOK 2000. Routes are regulary, and often also direct flights. Make a search on Scandinavian Airlines, Lufthansa or try Oslo Gardermoen airport (http://www.osl.no)
And forget about the Ryan and/or Torp stuff.
Happy flight!

Thanks for the tip. i have been to the SAS website. can't find an option for English (or figure out how you say "Germany" in Norwegian.) When I get home tonite I will call them and see about flights.
I checked the Oslo airport as you suggested and did a search for any departures in a 6 day period for Munich and got no returns.....
Will keep searching. A $300 fare is do-able and will snag it if I can find one. So far I've only found the $1,000 fare on Lufthansa.
And Adre, just FYI the London route would necessitate a stayover (because of the connections) in London making this a 30 hour journey.

Isn't SAS's website at scandinavian.net?
Now that I think about this I'm not sure if Bjorn's fare is necessarily bookable for you -- does this depend on whether you live in Europe, etc.?
What's your first stop? Scandinavia or Germany? I seem to recall that if you take a transatlantic flight on SAS (I assume you're in the US), you can flight intra-Europe flight coupons at a very reasonable price (look around the SAS website).

Another site had recommendations for
www.attitudetravel.com
and
skyscanner.net
for locating low cost flights in Europe. I haven't used either.

In searching through my list of possible airlines, I had skipped past the SAS site because in the "from" pop-up menu there was Norway but there was no "Germany" in the "TO" menu. So I assumed they did not fly there.
Because of Bjorn's insistance, I called them on the phone, and was advised that the Lufthansa flight I had priced at $1,000 was a one way fare and the return fare is only 2500NOK.
Problem solved. I can certainly get there cheaper by using the budget airlines but we're talking "Planes, trains and automobiles". This flight will be so much easier.
Thanks for everyone's help. I should know by now to always check for 2 way fares.
