On a trip to Austria last autumn, I was about take a photo of the friend I was traveling with when were were just about to leave O'Hare. I turned on the camera and then noticed the flashing message:
NO CF CARD!!
I had forgetten the card! I ended up finding one for what I thought was cheap at one of ths stores in Heathrow. I didn't realize the POUND:USD exchange rate was so bad!
Check your cameras before you leave!

Yes, ecost consistenly has the lots of cheap name-brand memory cards. Easiest to find them in the "Bargain Countdown" page. However, keep in mind that even if you qualify for free shipping, you still need to pay about $3.75 for handling.
And if you're not buying enough to qualify for free shipping, get one (or more) of the "free items" like DVD-R, photo papers, etc... They are free after rebate.

Funny. I googled kingston compactflash problems and didn't find a single failure report. This finding parallels my own experience with Kingston - dozens of desktop, laptop, PocketPC and camera memories over 15 years with no failures.

I have not looked on line, but in the stores around me the cheapest I could find a 1G card was $99.
I have not seen anywhere that offers rebates either.
Robespierre, have you delt with this company before?? Just curious if you have been happy with the things that you have purchased. I had no idea that there were memory cards being sold for such a low price.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I think I will have to look into this. I am worried that when I go to Europe next year I won't have enough memory. I took about 500 pictures last year.
I will be moving constantly and I don't think I will be able to stop in a photo place and have them put on a cd.
If I could get a card at such a reasonable price that would solve my dilemma.
Thank you.

pierre - It was not my suggestion to Google using those terms. I'm not surprised that you weren't able to find what you were seeking.
Ask many serious photographers which brand of CF and SD cards they use. Let them be your source of guidance.
HINT : Serious photographers are found in greater concentration on photography sites, not necessarily on this one.
