calling all greece experts
My husband and I arrive in Athens on Sept 5 and will be traveling to Santorini on the 6th and will stay for 3 nights. We plan on taking a ferry to Naxos and spending probably 4 nights there. We have 3 nights left until we leave Athens on the 17th. I would like to ferry back from Naxos and then go on to Delphi. I am not sure, though, that we would have time for a drive to Delphi. I hate to stay another night in Athens and then go to Delphi, and then back for a last night in Athens before our flight home.
If any has any ideas I would be quite grateful. I hope i did not make this too confusing.
Do you think that 3 nights in Athens is too much?

I am far from an expert on Greece, but we did a very similar trip last month: 1 night in Athens, 3 nights in Naxos, 2 nights in Santorini, and 3 nights in Athens (which turned into 6 nights thanks to the volcano!)
We visited Delphi, but decided to do it as a day trip rather than an overnight visit. This worked well for us...we left early in the morning and were back by early evening. It looks to me like you're planning to spend the night in Delphi, but perhaps a day trip would be a viable alternative for you?
Whether you have time to drive to Delphi after arriving from Naxos depends on when your ferry gets in. Ours didn't arrive until nearly midnight, and we sure wouldn't have wanted to make that drive in the dark. It isn't a particularly easy drive and we'd have hated to miss the scenery. On the other hand, if you get in early and feel like driving, why not? You could always check into your hotel and then see Delphi first thing in the morning if you need to.
Good luck with your trip. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Well, I do not know if you are interested in it but there are some guided tours that drive you to various towns of Greece, including Delphi. It can be a half or full day tour and you do not need to rent your own car, while you are guided to the highlights of the area you have selected to visit. I have joined a tour to Peloponnese and it was really comfortable for my wife and me because we avoided driving on an unknown route where we might even get lost. Lunch was included in the price and what I enjoyed more was the fact that everything had been arranged for us and so we didn’t have to worry about the details. I think that this Delphi tour is what you are looking for:

Nancygol,
Sounds like a nice trip. Just a suggestion, you may be able to take the one flight a day from Naxos and apon arrival at the airport drive directly to Delphi. The drive would be quicker and easier than from the ferry port in Pireaus. This way you may have a little time to visit the museum at Delphi that day, and then tour the sight in the early morning on the next day. this should aford you time to drive to Athens before the rush hour traffic. Drop the car and spend two nights in Athens. Delphi is worth an overnight!
