A long time, depending on what time of day. Gatwick is almost 40 miles from Knightbridge and that could take up to 2 hours in the rush hour and cost a lost of money - you are better off taking the Gatwick Express train to Victoria Station and taxi from there.

Or if you want the luxury of being met when you arrive and being helped with your luggage, then a private drive right to your hotel at about half the price of a taxi, then do a private car service. I use Swiss Cottage Cars. No website, but you can reserve by phone --44-207-431-2700. There are a number of others mostly a little more expensive, but still far less than a taxi.

Are you traveling alone or with someone. If alone then the Gatwick Express and taxi idea might be worthwhile. But if you buy two or more tickets on the GE and then add a taxi to your hotel depending on where it is, it may start being as much as a car service or with three or four people as much as a taxi.

Hi Jake.
As Londoner I would catch the Gatwick Express to Victoria Station. The cabs are lined up outside only minutes from the departure platform. It would probably cost you £10-£15 maybe not even that in a cab to knightsbridge.

www.gatwickexpress.co.uk
