Bus from Rome to Italy

My husband and I are traveling from Rome to Positano this July. I have read mixed reviews on the Marozzi bus. Can anyone give me their opinion? The reviews I read were several years old. Also, does the bus leave Rome at 7:00am on Saturday's also? Thanks.

I like your title, makes one think.

I took the bus from Positano to Rome and it was pleasant. If you search on here there are schedules listed. Maybe someone can top one for you.

Have fun.

Thanks SeaUrchin. I meant to say Rome to Positano. My bad! Was the bus airconditioned? I read that there are no bathrooms and they don't stop. Is that what you experienced?

There was a bathroom and it was air conditioned, they made a few stops but just to pick up passengers. The
driver loads your luggage under the bus.

It is more pleasant than the trains in my opinion.

SeaUrchin, do you remember if the bus from Positano to Rome stops in Sorrento?

Oh, no, sorry. I took the local bus from Positano to Sorrento. Another time I was staying in Sorrento and walked over to Tasso Square to catch it.

I do think I have read here on these forums that there is a bus that goes all the way from Positano. I'll see if I can find the thread for you.

Here it is:

A relatively hassle-free budget option is the Rome-Positano bus service (- operator: Marozzi).

Dep. 07.00 Roma Tiburtina
Arr.. 11.30 Positano (- Chiesa Nouva)

Fare:
€20.00 one way
€34.50 return

For details see:
www.marozzivt.it

There is often a taxi around the corner from the Chiesa Nuova stop in Positano for a ride down to your hotel. (If not, they will happily call you one at 'Bar Internazionale' nearby).

Alternatively there is a bus down into the centre.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

[Roma Tiburtina can be reached by Metro (- Line B, direction Rebibbia), bus or taxi].

Steve - Do you enter Positano as the destination on the Marozzi web site? I don't get an itinerary to come up for it, but I can get the Sorrento schedule. I haven't had much luck using their web site since they changed it in 2005. It was much easier before.

DiMarie - The Marozzi bus is like any tour type bus with plush seats (more comfortable than airline seats) and yes they had AC. I don't know if there are multiple Positano runs daily, but for Sorrento the bus departs at 7 or there is a later one at 3.

I want to go from Sorrento to Rome. From what I see on the Marozzi site, the only bus leaves at 17:00 and arrives in Rome at 21:00. Is there really no earlier bus?

kybourbon, I just saw where you said the bus leaves Sorrento at 7:00 and 3:00. Where did you find that?

I said the bus leaves FOR Sorrento (from Rome) at 7 and 3. The early return bus from Sorrento to Rome leaves at 6 am and you arrive Rome Tiburtina at 9:45. It leaves from Pizza Tasso and usually the little bar there is open where you can grab some coffee to take with you, but the driver doesn't have much patience if the service is slow.

After looking at the schedule on the web site again, it lists the departure from the train station. You might want to double check this as we departed from Piazza Tasso. I don't remember if we made a brief stop at the train station leaving Sorrento. I also see that the price listed is on the web site is 17E when you start to make your seat selection, but after you select it pops up at 15E, but I didn't get the transaction to complete so I don't know the final price. Steve is saying it's 20E and he is probably correct.

Oh,OK. I wonder why the website doesn't show that run. It's really early, but I'd rather have that than so late.

We were posting at the same time. I'll be in Sorrento for five days, so I can probably check on the departure place and get a ticket ahead of time. Thanks for the info.

Unless the driver is taking coffee himself .
I took that early bus to Rome, and caught it when it stopped at Sant'Agnello after leaving Sorrento. It also stopped at Vico Equense and I think one other place before continuing to Rome.

I don't mind the stops. This just seems like a much easier and cheaper way to get to Rome than getting to the train station in Naples and taking the train from there.

Susan - It does show on their website. The bus stops briefly (a couple of minutes) in 3-4 places to pick up passengers before it gets on the autostrada. It won't stop until it gets to Rome. The Tiburtina station is a bit seedier than Termini, but it is a major bus hub for Rome along with being a metro stop. If you are continuing on to a hotel, you might want to check in advance which bus you will need from Tiburtina if you don't want to take the metro. I think on the metro Tiburtina is 2 stops from Termini.

Hang onto your bus ticket (receipt) until you exit the bus in Rome. I had the driver try to pull a fast one saying I hadn't paid.

Susan - On the website, click on prenota Marozzi, then on the right side click prenotazione. When that page loads enter a date under data partenza, highlight Sorrento under localita partenza and Roma under localita destinazione, Both bus routes/times should appear to the right.

Hmmm...that's what I did. I'll have to try it again. I've spent a lot of time in Rome, so I know about the buses. Thanks.
