Elaine, one nice thing about Scarlett J. as "the girl" was that at 19 her age more or less matched the character's - a far cry from the 30-year-olds you see playing teenagers.

And in a different category altogether there's always Cate Blanchett. Can't complain about lack of versatility there.

Hugh and Colin were both in "Love Actually" which was quite a cute film that I watched on In Demand one weekend when my hubby was away! I loved Hugh as the PM! Colin was very dashing as a brooding writer attempting to win his Portuguese maid by learing the language. OK, so the film does not warrant an Oscar, but who cares? The eye candy was great!

I could not help but imagine myself as Hugh's secretary Natalie, the one he has a crush on, especially since that is my name:)

A couple of older (early '90s) Hugh Grant movies you might want to check out...
Sirens (he plays a minister; movie also has Elle Macpherson and Portia de Rossi in tiny roles)
Bitter Moon (plays cheating husband to Kristin Scott Thomas)

And one of my favourite recent Hughie movies is About a Boy. He's less cutsie in that, more (I think) like his real self, which can tend to be pretty grumpy in real life.

Also, because someone mentioned Brassed Off, which is cute, I thought I'd bring up one of my favourite sweet harmless British favs...Cold Comfort Farm. Anyone else like that one (despite its not featuring Hugh or Colin)?

ok, now I definitely have to rent P & P to see what all the Colin Firth fuss is about...not meant as a slight- when I read both Briget Jones books, he was described in intimate detail there and I forgot I wanted to see for myself. I do like Hugh's befuddled manner, and I agree About a Boy was great fun.
For the "crunchy gravel" fans (don't you love that phrase?), if you ever get a chance to see a PBS mini-series called Berkeley Square, I really enjoyed it, wish I'd taped it. Has anyone else seen it?

Ilovelabs, I agree that "Love Actually" was a fun film with terrific eye candy--not only Colin and Hugh, but Alan Rickman as well. He may not be handsome in the classic sense of the word, but that voice, acting ability and presence all make one very enjoyable man to watch. Loved him in Sense and Sensability.

Why do women love Colin Firth? Because he has that smoldering sexuality. You wonder what all is brewing beneath the surface.

Grinisa- me too - Did you see Truly, Madly, Deeply? Alan Rickman is the pined-after dead husband who comes back. Very sexy, that voice, that expressive face.

Alan Rickman is an absolutely fabulous actor -- great in serious drama, wonderful in comedy.

Truly Madly Deeply: what a fantastic film! Rent it if you haven't seen it. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll love it.

Yes, am a big fan of "Truly, Madly Deeply" as I am of all Rickman's work. Saw part of that horrible Kevin Costner version of Robin Hood the other night and only cared about the Rickman parts. My daughters wonder why I don't mind watching the Harry Potter movies with them and it's because I'm waiting for the Snape scenes.

That scene of the gang of ghosts watching vids, cracks me up every time, The tub scene!!!

Grinesa- I saw another film with Rickman as a baddie, it was a western & he was someone's nemesis, he ends up getting shot. Does that ring a bell?
