Gregory: Unfortunately, taking lives of nearly every animal is happening one way or another every day.

They are killing whales all over the world, but I don't suppose that we can boycott earth.

What really troubles me is how we people can kill other people, en masse.

We go places to see the beauty of it. We travelers don't get a vote in Sweden's politics.

This is the type of nutball posting that Fodor's ought to police. The writer clearly does not know what he is talking about -- note he calls them Swedish army knives and watches" -- he doesn't know Sweden from Switzerland. I am as much for "freedom of speech" as anyone, but this posting is so off-the-mark that it does not deserve cyberspace on this web site.

Next time check your information before you post. Only two countries permit whaling and those countries are Japan and Norway. Japan does so through a "scientific research" loophole in the IWC moratorium (IWC stands for International Whaling Commission) while Norway simply disregards it.

Like another poster has already said, learn about the difference between Sweden and Switzerland. Switzerland is known for their watches and army knives (plus they're landlocked so it'd be silly of you to claim that you really meant to say Switzerland was whaling). Sweden on the other hand is known for Volvos, Saabs and a lot of famous musicians.

Nästa gång skulle det vara bättre om du var säkert på vad du skrev istället för att sprida en massa dumheter.

We must remember to take such posts with a grain of salt. The original poster is also the same person who said he wanted to visit Llubljana, the capital of Slovakia, and asked if Sweden was the capital of Cophenhagen.
Nils, I'm going to take the second part of your post with the same grain of salt as the first post that started this silliness. When I want political opinions, I'll head for CNN or watch "Hardball" on MSNBC. Thanks and happy travels.

I'd say GO TO SWEDEN! It's a very beautifull country. Pure, clear nature, not overcrowded or overused by human, nice towns with good old architecture, peacefull and polite people - that's Sweden for me. This country enjoy the peace from 18 century and doesn't intend to control the world as so many countries, including my own (Russia) try to do. Well, if all the countries were like Sweden, the world would be much better.

I´m in this with Ilisa. Both of us fell into the same trap when he was asking about Ljublana.

Very observant Ilisa!! I'm the one who first corrected the ignoramus about Ljubljana being in Slovenia and observed that this might not be a serious post. I agree we should all ignore this poster (even though I didn't ignore him right now).

What I would also like to know is where on earth the "nordic sea" (sic) is. Maybe this guy isn't for real.

Don't forget Bofors, the Swedish armaments manufturer and exporter, and don't forget where Alfred Nobel's fortune came from.

Sweden doesn't kill whales, Japan and Norway do. And if you want the real culprit in the fall of the world whale populations during the 80's look no further than our beloved old USSR. Russia. Who signed the international treaties and then illegally took 10 or 20 times the number than either Japan or Norway took!

I'd love to go to Sweden and I may get the chance soon. I want to see in person how the welfare state works, and friends assure me that Stockholm is beautiful.

Strange how a loonie can divert the true purpose of this service -- the exchange of useful information among folks who enjoy travel. He must be giggling his head off while trying to slip out of his straitjacket.

Why do you take the bait?? Can't we please keep this forum for travel advice? It's one of the nicest places on the Internet, let's try to keep it that way and just ignore these stupid opinions of an uninformed and provocative nutcase.
If Sweden doesn't make army knives, how does their army cut bait? And, without watches, how will they know if it's time to cut bait or fish?

I like Sweden, ya, ya, ya... .
