Just returned from a wonderful six days in SW France. I've not stayed in Bordeaux itself, but two places that I'd highly recommend are:

In Pauillac: Chateau Cordellian Bages. Very convenient for touring most of the wine chateaux on the left bank from Margaux-St Estephe.

In Martillac: Les Sources de Caudlie. Next to the vineyards of Chateau Smith Haut Lafite. Convenient for touring Pessac-Leognan and Sauternes. Great spa. Two restaurants: one gourmet and one country cooking.

Make sure to book appointments with chateaux in advance. Most are very accomodating if you express interest and knowledge in their wine.

Julie-

I either faxed or emailed the chateau a couple of weeks in advance to set up the appointments. Usually the tours/tastings are private--not like in Napa/Sonoma--so advance notice is important. Try http://www.travelenvoy.com/wine/bordeaux2.htm for a listing of some of the chateaux. Have a great time!
