Looking for recommendations on restaurants and hotels in the city of Bordeaux

So am I. I'd also be interested in places in the areas just outside/around the city and in any especially good wineries to visit.

Just returned from a wonderful six days in SW France. I've not stayed in Bordeaux itself, but two places that I'd highly recommend are:<BR><BR>In Pauillac: Chateau Cordellian Bages. Very convenient for touring most of the wine chateaux on the left bank from Margaux-St Estephe.<BR><BR>In Martillac: Les Sources de Caudlie. Next to the vineyards of Chateau Smith Haut Lafite. Convenient for touring Pessac-Leognan and Sauternes. Great spa. Two restaurants: one gourmet and one country cooking.<BR><BR>Make sure to book appointments with chateaux in advance. Most are very accomodating if you express interest and knowledge in their wine.

Lori--When you say book chateaux appointments in advance do you mean call ahead the day before, or the day of,(which?) or do you mean write or e-mail before you leave for your trip? <BR>Thanks for the tips on hotels.

The Hostellerie de Plaisance is the nicest hotel in the village of St Emillion. However I would prefer to stay at the Chateau Grand Barrail which is a short distance away in Figeac.

Julie-<BR><BR>I either faxed or emailed the chateau a couple of weeks in advance to set up the appointments.
