StCirq, thanks for your valued endorsement of Chez le Gaulois, it's a treasure we felt, and also for your comments on the M des BA -- religious art is not what we seek out after years of parochial schooling -- but DH loves the food-hall scene slice-of-life.

aliced, Le Marché des Capucins (which is a fairly easy walk from the rain station), while not the greatest market in France by a long shot (actually quite pathetic considering Bordeaux is a major city and a mecca for foodies) has a handful of nice food-hall-type sit-down places (more traditional than La Boca, which tries to be international and does OK in that respect.

I would agree with the endorsement of Chez le Gaulois in Sarlat, and the Presidential food was fine-it is more of the draw of the garden there that makes in semi-worthwhile. For lunch in Sarlat I would recommend La Cremerie, which is a cheese shop that does light lunch using the very yummy local cheese and other ingredients. It was a perfect stop on market day

Our favorite restaurant to date in the area has been the O Plaisir Des Sens. It is actually before you get into the village itself-so it has its own ample parking lot. They have a side of the restaurant that is a bistro with a nice prix fixe lunch at 25 euros and then they also have the more gastronomic side of the house with a lovely garden in nice weather. Part of the reason I love the restaurant in the family who owns and operates it. The wife and chef husband put together a local cookbook of recipes from many of the restaurant chefs around the region. It is a wonderful souvenir however, because the cuisine is local many of the recipes won't come out the same with out the local duck, truffles walnuts etc. But is is still nice reading.

If you end up basing near Uzes, we loved a restaurant in a nearby village called Castillon-du-Gard about 20 minutes from Uzès, called L'AMPHITRYON. They actually have a second restaurant as well called Les Jarres which looks to be more focused on grilling.
