Best maps for driving?

I'll be traveling through Germany and Switzerland by car. What maps are best for getting around? Our rental car will have a GPS but I still want to have maps available. Thanks for your help.

Unless you need the maps now, at home, for planning purposes, wait until you get to wherever your plane lands.

Over the years, I have found the maps and road atlas published by the ADAC (German Automobile Club) the most useful. You can buy either in airport book shops. The Atlas has also a very good index of even the smallest villages as well as sections on road signs, hotels, plus very good driving plans for major Gewrman cities and summary autobahn maps. But the atlas is a bit hefty.

The Michelin maps are also very good, but, in my opinion, they have too much detail and thus are a bit confusing.

Why do you ask 3 times the same day?
The Michelin 500 series are fine !

We like the Michelin maps. We like their road atlas's--easier for Mrs. Fly to handle while navigating.

That should be: We like their road atlas's design and layout.
