We would like to end our current trip to southwest England with two nights within 2 hours of Heathrow. We will be spending our final day at Highclere Castle (Yay! Just got tickets today in the midst of our trip!) We would like to go to Avebury the day before, but would like to stay nearest to Highclere since we will be at Highclere until late afternoon on that last day.
Any favorites other than Oxford?

As I mentioned on one of your earlier threads -- any of the Thames side towns/villages such as Henley, or Marlowe or Wallingford.

Or somewhere In/near Avebury.

I stayed there years ago and have no idea if it is still as nice -- but really lovely gardens leading down to the river and very nice bedrooms.
