My husband and I will be in Belfort France for a week in the spring. I know this is not a touristy city.Can anyone recommmend a hotel near the town center and any good restaurants?

I have never been to Belfort, so I can't give you any first-hand info. But since you don't seem to be getting any other help, I thought I'd check my somewhat out-of-date (1996) Michelin Red Guide for you. The most centrally located hotel seems to be the Grand Hotel du Tonneau d'Or***. Website: http://www.tonneaudor.fr available in English. Somewhat less central are the Novotel Atria and the Boreal. For a list of these and other hotels: http://www.interfrance.com/fr/fc/bel_accom.html As for restaurants, there is a Michelin one-star just north of Belfort (1.5 km by the D13- Route d'Offemont) called Le Sabot d'Annie. Others recommended are the Hostellerie du Chateau Servin and Le Pot au Feu, both in Belfort. 3km south of Belfort, in Danjoutin, there is Le Pot d'Etain. Thank you Betty. I'll investigate those. My husband has to be there on business and since its not a very touristy area there is not much information out there.

Be sure to check out Colmar and the wine route through the Alsace. beautiful! Also the town of Ribeauville has a wonderful tradition of making gorgeous french tablecloths - and you can visit the factory to buy 1st quality or irregular cloths. worth a visit if you love entertaining.

There is a marvellous red lion carved out of the natural rock, carved in the 1500's,standing about 30ft high in Belfort. A must see, plus very nearby is Besancon, a delightful town with fascinating roman ruins.Lots to do in the area, and good eating with excellent wines.
