Bed and Breakfast/Inns in Bavaria

Sorry - me again. Anyone know any good websites for info on b&b/inns on the romantic road through bavaria and around koblenz/trier. We are going there in a couple of weeks and I am not sure if Karen Brownes guides are available in the UK yet.
Thanks.

Carole: I have some info, but it's second hand. Since I like Bavaria very much, I will sometimes print previous info and keep it for my own reference. With this in mind, I have two: 1) The villiage of Hohenfurch has a family owned inn that was recommended by Wes Fowler. He said it was among cow pastures in a tiny village close to Fussen, along the "Romantic Road" and had a restaurant and was very charming, while quite inexpensive. The address is Landgasthof Schonach-Hof, Kapellenstrasse 22, D-8928 Hohenfurch, tel. 08861/4108. 2) More expensive and larger, but in the same area was the Burghotel, 87459 Pfronten-Obermeilingen, Germany, tel. 08363 309. This was suggested by Lynn and was plucked from the "Karen Brown Itineraries" on http://www.karenbrown.com. Either one would put you within reach of Rothenburg to the north, Oberammergau and Garmisch to the southeast and nearby Scwangau and Neuschwanstein castle. I think that my wife and I will try the first one when we venture back, taking her parents next spring. Have fun!

We found the Berkley book on Germany and Austria very good for finding penisons and B&B's. Heidleberg's Pension Elite and Regensberg's Rote Hahn were especially friendly with good breakfast (also inexpensive). Go on down to Passau on the Danube at corner of Austria, Germany, and Czech; its wonderful.
Check out http://www.gap.baynet.de/landkreis/u...l#Oberammergau. It gives alot of good info about cheap places around Garmisch and Oberammergau. Many can be booked online. This particular area of Bavaria is excellent for day trips to the Royal Castles near Fussen, excursions into Austria and the Alpine lakes, not to mention Oberammergau and Garmisch themselves.
In Trier, we've always been partial to the Eurener Hof which is just outside town. Excellent food, indoor pool and very cosy. And it used to be very reasonable.

Re: Bed and breakfast in Bavaria.
Just returned Tuesday from two weeks Germany
travel and stayed near Schongau at the Wes
Fowler reccommended Gasthaus. It was very good, reasonable(98.00DM for two) and within
45 min to Fuessen, the two Ludwigs castles and
naturally the wonderful Wiesskirche and Ettal.
It is a bit far in ref. to Rothenburg in the north,
traffic is very congested nowadays on the romantic road and except for Rothenburg it does
not lead through the beautiful towns that it did
years ago. I would stay in Rothenburg (we stayed
at Hotel Bayrischer Hof) just outside the gates on
Ansbacher Strasse and it was also nice. Most of
the hotels or Gasthof's are reasonable, we never
paid more than 120.00DM for two (two beds, one
room with shower and the famous WC and very
clean). My best recommendation is a book that
is available in Germany and can be deciphered by
a non german speaking person (my friend was
super with it and it is called in English "Right and
Left of the Autobahn", we used it for two weeks
and never once had a bad experience. I'll be
happy to answer more questions for anyone.
Have a good trip, we did!!

Carole, We just returned from a 3 week trip to Germany, I brought over a number of books for reference for hotels and inns. I did not even use them after the first week. When we got to a town, we would look for the town hall or information board that listed hotel or rooms in the town. Most of the time we would just pull into town and ask for a room and see what the cost was. If we liked it we took it, if not we keptlooking. We never had a problem finding a room. The average price we paid was about 80 marks. We were able to get a room in just outside of Fussen at 9:30 at night for 80 marks. It even had a view of the castle. The books will be a good reference for the large cities but will not help much in the country. Use the books for a reference but don't rstrict yourself to them in case you see something else interesting along the way. Glenn
