Bath Hotel Recommendation
Will be making a day trip to Bath and considering staying the night. Any worthwhile, special places there? (will not have a car.) Especially interested in something very old as we do not have that in America! Bad news: must keep budget down to about 100 pounds or less for double room.

Thanks.

Hi, we stayed in Bath a couple of years ago but our hotel cost about twice as much as you said you wanted to pay. May I suggest trying the visitors site for Bath, it has many different types of accomodations and prices listed:

http://www.bath.co.uk/

Our favorite experience in Bath was also free -- walking tours of the city offered by volunteers. Tours begin at the Roman Baths, try the Bath web site or the Rick Steves Great Britain book for more info about it (that's how we learned about it). They would not even accept tips, but we had a great two hour history lesson of the town.

Since posting this question, my wife found a wonderful website: www.bath.org

Has an incredible list of b&b's with pictures rates and websites and email addresses. I wish the listings for London were this good!

We really loved the Carfax Hotel, on Great Pulteney Street just a block down from the Pulteney Bridge. Cross the Bridge and you're in the middle of everything--the Abbey and the Baths are right there. The hotel is lovely, rooms are surprisingly large and very comfortable, and rates are quite good. They're listing 82 GBP as their current rate for a "standard ensuite double."
We also found the staff to be particularly helpful and friendly.

Their Web site is at http://www.carfaxhotel.co.uk.
