Barcelona itinerary-is this doable..please please help.

Ok so we are going to be in barcelona for 2 days with 2 kids. Trying to pack in as much as we can and I've decided on the following itinerary. Please tell me if this sounds ok in terms of distance etc.
day 1 mid morning visit the sangrada familia(not going inside) then take a cab/bus to parc guell. Have lunch at some cafe nearby.( are there cafés near parc guell.)
Evening maybe visit the Dali museum and the Palau musica.
Day 2 morning visit casa Lleo mornera ..then walk along la rambla, the gothic quarter and perhaps do dinner at the boquera market. Any help and suggestions will be really appreciated. It's our first grip to Europe.

<< visit the sangrada familia >>

The inside is the best part. If you don't go in you're not "visiting" but taking a look from the outside.

You do know the Dali museum is not in Barcelona. It's 1.5 hours away.

You'll need advanced tickets for the Palau de la Musica. If you just show up there may be no time slots available for tours.

If your definition of visit is just look at the outside of the buildings (as in Sagrada Familia visit) then you're fine.

The TI offers tours of the Bari Gotic.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I agree will definitely do the inside tour. But is doing both the sagrada and parc guell in one morning/afternoon possible. What is TI? Thank you

Besides missing out on the spectacular interior of the Sagrada Familia, you will need to purchase tickets in advance to visit Parc Güell (www.parkguell.cat/en/)

"Tickets can be purchased up to three months before the visit, choosing the date and time-band, up to a maximum of 9 tickets per person for each purchase."

I think you may want to rethink your two days in Barcelona, relax and enjoy the city.

I spent a couple of hours each at Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell. The docent led tour is quite good and gives an understanding of the church. There's a lot to look at here.

I would see the church first, have some lunch/snack, and then go to the Parc. Depending on the timing of your sightseeing, and with 2 children (assuming they're young) you might want to carry water and snacks for them.

After the church and park you could go to the Bari Gotic area and have a meal at the market.

TI = Tourist Information

Robert - do you think there will be lines to get in at Parc Guell?

Very much recommend to go inside the Sagrada Familia. English speaking guided tours for a few euros more adds very much to the experience. Buy tickets online in advance to avoid the often very long lines and waits. http://www.sagradafamilia.cat/sf-eng/index.php

No dinner at the Boquería market, the market closes at 8.30pm when most restaurants start to open for dinner. I can recommend close by Can Culleretes from 1786 (the second oldest in the country), an institution in town serving traditional Catalan food and still very popular with locals. Run by a great and no fuss group of ladies. Opens at 9pm. Reservations is a must: http://www.culleretes.com/en/home

Your question should be is it 'advisable' rather than is it 'doable'. Anything may be doable but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to do it.

For example, Barcelona is 'doable' in two days but that definitely isn't advisable.

My guess is you are dividing up a larger period of time over a fixed number of places you want to visit. Instead, I would suggest you divide up your time based on how much time you NEED in a place to do it justice. Start with your first priority of places; decide how much time; decide on your next priority and how much time you feel you will need and continue until you run out of time. No doubt, some places will not make it into this trip if you do that.

Think of it like slices of a pie. If you cut the slices too small in order to have more slices, none of them are big enough to be worth eating.
