Any day trips from Istanbul to recommend?
We will be 6 days in Istanbul and already have the hotel reserved to stay in Sultanamet area those 7 nights. Other than a Bosphorus ferry trip, are there any "day trips" that we should do while there? (sights to be sure to see that wouldn't entail any more than an hour or two of travel). We won't be renting a car-but something in the way of a tour bus type trip would be fine.

I would not want to cheat you out of the many interesting, quaint, exotic, or just different parts of istanbul, by recommending day trips out of the area for your first trip here.
next time you come, we can talk about going to one of the Princes islands for a horse carriage ride and sunset dinner, or to Sile and Agva as a romantic and/or beach outing and shopping at local markets for the famous Sile broad cloth shirts. Or further, but definitely worth the time spent, Iznik, (Nicea) for the Christian significance and antiquity and the beautiful lake.
This time around, enjoy the Bosphorus cruise, visit to Ortakoy, evenings at Istiklal Street, A ferry boat trip and market on Tuesday at Kadikoy, Plus all the major historic sites, and if you have time, walks in Balat, Fener areas and Edirnekapi. Finding forgotten churches, climbing the ramparts in Rumelihisari, having meatballs and white bean salad at Ali Baba in Arnavutkoy, followed by the famous icecream at Girandola, splurging at the Lebanese cuisine and belly dancing restaurant Al-Jamal, just above the W hotel at akaretler, Besiktas, eating a char-grilled whole baby octopus and Armenian cuisine at Prokopi bar while easy listening to piano and maybe a singer.
so much to do and so little time, although Gene Wilder said the reverse at Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
