Amsterdam to Berlin
I am trying to book an overnight train from Amsterdam to Berlin. I tried booking on the Die Bahn website, but I am not able to get teh fares right. If you have travelled from AMS to Berlin overnight, do you have any suggestions?

What is the problem, exactly?
The site lists 111E for the train at 7:07 PM.
You can buy your tickets from www.euraide.com for the same price as in Germany + S&H. They have a US office.

There is no direct night train between Berlin and Amsterdam - i just did that route overnight a few weeks ago. You first have to take a connecting train to Duisburg, Germany and join the overnight Berlin train there. If you go thru RailEurope in this country you'll pay $173 in first class and $121 in second class plus sleeping accommodation fees - a minimum of $29 in a six-person couchette, or about 70-80$ per person for a place in a private double (singles bit more); for most sleeping choices, including doubles, you only need buy a second-class ticket; a few deluxe accommodations may require first class ticket. Generally the Bahn site doesn't give fares for international trains. If interested in going through RailEurope, call Budget Europe (800-441-9413), a RailEurope agent with same prices but no $15 mailing fee that RailEurope has if so many days in advance and extremely knowledgable and very helpful staff; i used them lots over the years.

This trip takes about 5-5 1/2 hours during the DAY; unless you are doing this to save a hotel room night I would agree that flying is probably a better option. I've been on this route several times, the scenery is minimal but for such a short flight time even I would forsake the beloved railroad for this one!

iF THE PRICE IN germany is 111 euros, that's quite a bit more than RailEurope's $121 (111 x 1.35= $150!); not always cheaper in Europe. German railways for tickets inside Germany however have a 50% off companion ticket sold without any strings but this may not apply to int'l fares. Ira obviously got the price from the bahn site, put in two travelers and see what the fare is. If it's 111 euros p person, save lots of money by buying here it seems. this would seem to be the train fare but if the 111 euros included sleeping accommodations than it's probably better.
