Go Rob, go Amber! Once again, they are the team that never gets down on each other.
|
You're right Keith!!
Well, well, well...look who finished first and guess what??....they got a prize for finishing first too!! What a surprise!!! Oh, and wait!...AGAIN Rob and Amber didn't do the race all by themselves!! They should give part of that prize to that guy that just totally helped them out and showed them the way tonight. But wait, that wouldn't be fair because then they would have to share their prizes with all the other 4 or 5 people that have helped them out during this entire season!!! What a crock of sh-t!! They don't even deserve to win this thing (but it looks like they will). Anybody can win this race if they bring some local along with them to show them where to go. Try doing something on your own for crying out loud!!! But then that means they would probably lose and we all know the show doesn't want that!!! |
Rob & Amber are not breaking any rules, just because they've got the brains to get locals to help them, you can't be mad at them. Well, you can, but that means that you're mad at them for playing a good game.
He annoys me too sometimes, but he's playing within the rules, until they change the rules, ANY team can do that! |
First time commenting on this topic but I loved tonight's episode in London. Can't wait to finally see who wins.
I just have one thing to say about tonight's episode... did the Military/Beauty Queen couple really sit on the Tube and say "nekkid." Why did they have to keep saying the "Three Nekkid Men." Nekkid. Nekkid. Nekkid. Ugh. Why couldn't they have lost tonight? They're too busy fighting eachother to deserve the big prize. |
I think we all just better accept the probablity than Ron and Amber are going to win this thing.
Anybody can win a race if they get someone to help? Well then maybe anybody should be smart and friendly and outgoing enough to ask someone to help. The guy that helped them obviously enjoyed himself, which I think is the case for most of their helpers. Shoot, I'd have helped them out if they asked - it's fun to be part of it. And I was very disappointed that Joyce and Uschina did not learn their lesson and CHECK OUT OTHER FLIGHTS. They are behind and it's their own fault. They were lazy and took the easy way. Rob and Amber have been lucky, annoyingly lucky, but they also know how to play the game. Joelle |
Just for the record -- and not because it's going to make a difference to some people here -- but the title of this show is the Amazing Race , not the Amazing Game. The model is, or should be, sportsmanship (but obviously it isn't -- it IS, after all, "reality" television).
As for Romber and rules, to admire them, you have to subscribe to the idea that anything goes so long as there isn't a rule against it, which I don't. There may not have been a rule about helping those in the overturned jeep in Africa, but it's just plain a matter of humanity. Rob and Amber not only annoy me because they race "mean" but because of their horrific ignorance; and being in another country doesn't mean anything to them except as an obstacle to be overcome ("at least people actually speak English here"). It's clever enough -- and in the spirit of things -- to get help from whomever they want, although it does seem that people are convinced all the time to break rules for them (speaking of "rules"), like being allowed to go behind counters and use computers in airports. But to go that extra step of telling people NOT to help anyone else -- why is that so admirable to some of you? Last night's outcome was as most of us predicted. Beginning to be very much afraid everyone's right -- the fix is in for Romber. Would be sorry to see the lipstick-addicted Kelly and the "like teaching a woman to drive" idiot Ron, win, too. But U&J are going to have to race a bit smarter and luckier to win. Still think it a royal rip-off they got nothing for the head-shaving win. |
I finally noticed something else last night about Rob and Amber. I have been caught up in the "hate Rob and Amber" thing...and I don't like his ignorance OR arrogance...but, he is always very polite and gracious to the local people..or at least so far..next week might be interesting with the run in with the law. I was thinking at many points last night when other teams were lost and confused.."why don't you just ASK that guy standing over there!!!?" Well, maybe they did and it was edited out. As far as people helping..I think they like being part of it as suggested by another poster, and that's where Rob has played it smart. Sorry to see Merideth and Gretchen go but of course it was coming, but boy, ya gotta give them credit. I'm so tired of the "beauty queen". If she was miss Georgia or what ever, it must have been a bad year or I guess the mgaic of make-up helped her through. I don't see it. And Ron was such an ass. Saying how easy it would have been for him to drive the bus..so then DRIVE it. They are a couple of jerks. Well, next week will tell the tale...final episode..wonder what Rob does to get in trouble with the cops...wonder where they are? LOVED seeing London last night...WAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
|
Anyone know where the final episode travels to? Looks like they may finally be going some place less familiar, rather than the biggest cities in the country.

Just saw Gretchen and Meredith on the Early Show. They are indeed a charming couple. Relaxed and pleasant, and now that she's not under stress, Gretchen's voice was 1,000 decibels lower (her voice seemed to bother so many of you). When asked about R&A, they said they didn't feel it was a level playing field from the start. They expressed loving every minute of their adventure.
There's no doubt in my mind that we would enjoy having dinner with them, or spending an evening with them, talking travel, etc. Certainly can't say that about #1 or #2 last night! |
The prizes are given out for pre-determined legs. The contestants are told this before the race begins. R&A hav been lucky and have collected several prizes, but the big ones went to others, the $10,000 each to Debbie and Bianca, the two cars to Ray and Deana and the $20,000 Travelocity prize last week to Ron and Kelly for coming in last. Now, don't you think that if there was some conspircy that R&A would have got the best prizes?
|
I love Rob and Amber and think they have the best "game playing". Amazing Race doesn't start everyone on a "level playing field", that's part of the fun. Uchenna and Joyce are great, and I hope they win. Ron and Kelly are always backpaddling against eachother and are sooo annoying!
|
Interesting things from this week’s clips on the Amazing Race website:
Rob & Amber decided not to tell the other contestants that they won another prize for coming in first. Amber said that the other contestants have been unhappy R&A have always won prizes and they have not. Uchenna and Joyce are planning to visit Gretchen and Meredith after the race. U&J are still remembering the orphanage from several legs back and are giving more thought to adopting. R&A had a LONG discussion about who to yield. Amber didn’t want to make Ron and Kelly mad at them. R&K had their biggest success begging in Turkey because they were Americans. They got 15 USD and some Turkish money from someone who is a Kurd and is grateful to America. Keith |
I've enjoyed watching Rob & Amber race so far, though I've been really rooting for Joyce & Uchenna to win.
Last night was the first time that I was a little disappointed in seeing Rob & Amber come in first - I guess it was their utilizing *again* a local person to basically lead them by the hand to wherever they needed to be - and *again* winning a prize for being first. Maybe it's just holdover resentment that Joyce & Uchenna won nothing for either of their first places. I am thinking that perhaps the next leg is somewhere in the Caribbean, with the finish line somewhere on the east coast - Florida, maybe? It looked pretty tropical. |
Loved seeing the London scenes. The other teams made big mistakes by taking taxis everywhere. The tube would have been much faster. I can't even imagine what the fare was from Baker Street to Greenwich! And Ron commented that it took an hour (and that was probably pretty good time for that distance!)
Say what you will about Rob and Amber, but they get along well together and are very saavy. They're playing the game well. The best part of last night's show was when Uchenna and Joyce were standing on the wrong train platform and the dumbfounded looks on their faces when the train when whizzing past them. "Why the h*ll didn't it stop?" :D |
I think that there should be a prize each time for coming in No1 to make it more fair. BTW, POW/nobeauty got the $20,000 prize not because they came in last, but because their gnome had the airplane pictured on the bottom.
|
Keith, which team didn't appreciate the whirling dervishes? It always amazes me how some people can't appreciate other cultures or customs.
I'm so glad Joyce and Uchenna didn't come in last as I'm rooting for them. |
Thoughts from last night's show:
Why did Meredith and Gretchen pick brawn over brains?!? At this point in the race you're worn out so a physical task is extra demanding. And who wouldn't want to meet Sherlock Holmes. Ron saying he could do the bus driving better. Well, maybe or maybe not. Kelly did it, either support her or shut up. Once again, very tired, driving on the other side of the road, through a tight course of small cones. A double decker bus is not a helicopter. I doubt he had to take the helicopter through a cone course. During the bus challenge Amber was best by not saying anything to Rob. But, then again, she doesn't say much anyway. Uchenna figured it out and kept his mouth shut. I think the producers at TAR must have been shocked by Kelly's comment about Ron's getting out of the Army by being a POW because it was shown as a preview clip, in the show, and in last night's recap of the previous show. How long is a yield penalty? Though I've been wrong with every single guess I've made (see my earlier postings in this thread) I still want Joyce and Uchenna to win. She deserves something for shaving her head. |
It's coming down to the wire with the best 3 teams left. I know I don't want Ron and Kelley to win (and uh, is it really that had to remember their names with only 2 other couples left...?). I think Joyce and Uechenna have the most heart and I would not be adverse to see them win for that.
However, for sheer resourcefulness and entertainment value I have to totally root for Rob and Amber. They've played the game the best and deserve it the most. Remember, they're playing the Amazing RACE and not the Amazing Lack of Morals -- as long as they do nothing illegal it's a game with few rules and a $1 million prize. Hellloooooo! If Joyce/Uechenna or Gretchen/Meredith don't have the sense to figure out and employ real or perceived advantages to get ahead then as far as I'm concerned they're the Amazing Chumps. GO ROMBER!! |
I believe Kelly had to do the bus-driving roadblock because Ron had reached his max. I like this "new" rule because otherwise you get the stronger team member doing all the roadblocks.
Given that the Race is a balance of strategy and luck, this rule tips it just a little bit more towards strategy, which makes it more interesting to me. Like crefloors, we were amazed that more teams didn't ask for help in London, where, after all, they DO speak English! (Anybody else pick up that Romber was clueless about Sherlock Holmes, Baker St, etc? Without their assistant, they would have been utterly at sea.) And how many of you frequent visitors to the Big Smoke saw the London segment and thought, "I could SO ace this part!" :-D |
The double generation gap with regards to Abbey Road was humorous. Not only did Meredith and Gretchen not know the relevance of Abbey Road, I don't know if the younger couples knew much more about why Abbey Road is famous and what the crosswalk is famous for. On another tangent, didn't the four Beatles look like skid road bums on the album cover of Abbey Road?
