Rob and Amber are, by far, playing the best game in the entire hisory of Amazing Race. With all the pressure they are under they are still a couple who treat each other with love and respect. It's good to see.

I would love for them to win. Actually I like all the remaining couples with the exception of the POw and his beauty queen (could have fooled me) girlfriend. I would be very disappointed to have them win.

ceb122: No, they would have taken that plane, probably via Gaberone to Johannesburg where they all flew on a South African Airways flight to Mumbai, they didn't show any of that except the scene entering and leaving the SA plane, they then flew via Delhi to Lucknow.
Didn't you love Francistown Airport! As I mentioned before, a different sight of travel, relaxed, enjoyable, stress free!

according to phil at the end of last season, it was rob and amber who lobbied hard to be on the show. the producers didn't go after them. phil said he didn't even know who they were since he's been traveling with the show so much, he can't watch the latest tv.

i have to admit, i liked rob on survivor, amber annoyed me. and i think they are great on this show. the guy knows how to play a game to win.

if they don't win, i hope uchenna and joyce win. one was laid off from enron and the other from worldcom---can a couple have worse financial luck??? and then the whole baby thing--they deserve a break.

beauty queen and pow have annoyed me from the first show.

the old couple live in my town. i keep forgetting to keep an eye out for them when i'm in the grocery store or running about town.

i thought the gay couple were hilarious in the beginning. but their hatred of rob and amber really brings them down.

I looked at the CBS AR website preview for next week and the head shaving fast forward is back again. They try to make you think Rob and Amber may do it, but I don't think Amber would shave her head. The other teams may. It should be a good episode.

I forgot about the backpack thing... I told mom (since it is pretty obvious that they are a LONG WAY behind the other teams) "wouldn't it be ironic if she goes out and buys this backpack only to loose it again??!!" I am betting that it happens....

I spent some time on these sites and realised that Grasshopper is one of the most prolific poster here. I thought I would see where else he'd posted and found this board.

I have been an Amazing Race fan since the first season. I am a South African and was watching all but this one and the last one at home in South Africa. To put some perspective one exactly how recognisable the people are Survivor and AR alternate primetime Thursday night TV in South Africa. My sister says they have just started the previous Survivor. She even taped the end of AR5 for me so that I can watch it when I finally return to SA. She also taped Survivor All Stars for me - which I have never seen.

I was, and am still, not a fan of Romber. Although they have "played" AR incredibly well. The season is really a good crop of people, which has made it a lot less irritating.

I agree that Ronelly are getting a little painful, but that could very well be a result of the jetlag someone mentioned.

I love Lynn and Alex - but then I always seem to enjoy the gay couples. I think a lot of what they say is said in jest. The comment at the airport I don't think was mean - I think they were just observing that they were doing the same thing differently, and noting that Rob would probably have convinced the agent to not help them (which he had done)

I loved the shots in Africa - it reminded me of home and was really nice to see scenery I recognised. The orphans were AIDS orphans and I really liked what they did. Joychenna did mention that they went back to the orphanage on the pit stop - they were not that far away.

The girl that helped Romber is exactly what I would have done had I seen them. I made a special day trip to stand in the rain at an amusement park to meet Rupert from Survivor, so I know how she feels. I loved the scene in the hospital where all the nurses were calling their friends to come and meet Romber. I think they've handled that well.

I'm rooting for G&M. They're local to MD and I'm amazed that they're still in it. But everyone's right about the wailing!

BTW the buck in the park were definitely impala - duiker are much smaller and very shy. Impala are ubiquitous.

Oh and the comment about the black people being able to balance stuff better than white is not such a racist comment. There is scientific evidence that it would be easier - in child psych at home we learnt that black babies have better motor skills than white babies on average. (They hold their heads up and sit an average of a month earlier) I grew up there trying to learn to do that - I guarantee that even a local white person would have a hard time balancing that water.

I love the show. Mostly because when I can't afford to travel I can do it vicariously through the show.

I'd love to see the contestants have to get through a London Underground in the middle of summer at peak time!

I'm looking forward to the family version. A lot more logistics and gives some interesting ideas for tasks.

It would also be fun to see one of travel industry proffessionals - just to see how they cope in the real world. (I used to be a travel agent - but that was after I travelled for 4 years)

Bianca,
Thanks for giving a little different perspective on some of the things we wonder about.

Binkieloo Apr 18th, 2005 02:08 PM

Just a note on the TV comment. The majority of South African have only 4 TV channels to watch and only two of those are majority in English. So the Primetime English show is one of the most watched.

Marilyn Apr 18th, 2005 02:17 PM

Binkieloo, thanks for the different perspective! By the way, Grasshopper is a person of the female persuasion. :-D

Viajero2 Apr 18th, 2005 04:28 PM

I heard from a reliable source who won the Amazing Race 7. You will be pleased....:-D

lmavolio Apr 18th, 2005 04:35 PM

I HOPE Rob & Amber do not win!!!

Madison Apr 18th, 2005 04:36 PM

Viajero - Is it Rob & Amber? Please say it isn't POW and the Beauty Queen (?)

Marilyn Apr 18th, 2005 05:08 PM

Please DON'T say at all!
Thanks.

If you reveal this information prematurely, we will HUNT YOU DOWN !!

Meredith Apr 19th, 2005 06:29 AM

Here's an article in USA Today about Gretchen and Meredith:

http://www.usatoday.com/life/televis...e-couple_x.htm

It says they are the oldest couple ever to compete in AR. Also, a sidebar mentions that Rob and Amber got married this past weekend in the Bahamas, and (of course) their wedding will air on CBS in May.

Marilyn Apr 19th, 2005 09:50 AM

Can't wait to see the labor and delivery of their first-born -- live and in real-time on CBS, of course!

ncgrrl Apr 19th, 2005 10:03 AM

I just can't wait to see the wedding promo on tonight's show ;) I'm guessing Amber doesn't shave her head, because she's getting married soon (I think this was filmed in November). I doubt she'd want a crew cut for her wedding photos.

I'm guessing Lynn and Alex take the fast forward.

Binkieloo Apr 19th, 2005 11:35 AM

Marilyn: thanks for the help

Grasshopper: oops :)

gualalalisa Apr 19th, 2005 01:19 PM

Guys, don't jump all over Viajero. The supposed winner was revealed in TV Guide about three weeks ago.

However, I have read such reveals before and they have turned out to be wrong so I am not putting a lot of stock in it.

Can't wait for tonight's episode!

Keith Apr 19th, 2005 05:58 PM

Great race!

I laughed so hard. And there were tears in my eyes during the head shaving ceremony.

But if the winner is anyone but Rob & Amber, there is no prize:-(

Keith
