Marilyn & Giovanna, you said it better than I could.

No it isn't real, but if you get used to hearing insults and rudeness- on a steady basis, as you did in last night's show, especially- you just might get to think it's average, normal or permissable- especially if you don't have a good role model in the manners department.

That's why what Giovanna says is especially true, kindness in manners isn't something that is being carried over to the next generation very well at all in the present times- and this by seeming "normal" on tv, doesn't help. I turned off Archie Bunker for the same reason. Name calling is too catchy.

Madison Mar 23rd, 2005 11:01 AM

Marilyn & Giovanna - I am with you. In so many countries the "more mature"are held with such high regard and respect. Sadly, it's not the case in our country.

Ray was so out of line last night and his on and off girlfriend isn't much better. It doesnt't take much for her to go over the edge. They are the "New" Jonathan and Victoria. I was hoping they would be eliminated last night.

Marilyn Mar 23rd, 2005 11:03 AM

Mathieu, my first thought when they switched tasks in the middle was "Can they DO that?" I expected some sort of penalty when they arrived at the pit stop. But if it wasn't applied this week, I doubt if it will suddenly show up next week.

Sorry to name-call, JJ5, but Chepar has it exactly right: Ray is a putz. (Ah, the glories of Yiddish!)

I think it was OK to change the task the way they did last night. However, changing the OTHER way would have been difficult because they didn't have the picture of the boat so would have had to go back to the beginning to get the picture and start out again.

Mathieu Mar 23rd, 2005 11:26 AM

Marilyn, I believe in past Races there've been penalties given at the start of the next leg after the producers have had time to assess whether there has been a breach in the rules during the previous leg. Such a penalty could be something like starting the next leg an hour, or half an hour, later. Often time, when the contestants get to Phil on the mat, he has no idea what may have happened in the hours before that so he has to accept them as they come in.

It is true, Ray is being unkind and insensitive and not a very likeable person, but were it not for the camera, we'd never know what his private thoughts and sayings were. Or of teh otehr contestants for that matter. There might be worse things being said by some of them.

Marilyn Mar 23rd, 2005 11:34 AM

Very true, Mathieu. I am always impressed by the editing on these shows, especially Survivor. The editors have the daunting task of putting together endless hours of raw footage to not only construct a story for each week, but a story arc for the entire series.

Keith Mar 23rd, 2005 12:48 PM

In the past, contestants have been permitted to change between the two tasks in a detour with no penalties.

Barbara Mar 23rd, 2005 01:02 PM

Keith, yes, but they have been completely different tasks and the contestants stopped one task and started the second from the beginning. Last night was rather different in that Joyce and Uchenna(sp?) changed from one to the other in midstream (sorry, couldn't resist!). They didn't complete the task they set out to do and just happened on the sign for the other task. I think that the two tasks may have been poorly planned to allow that to happen, but still they probably should be penalized.

Here's a very funny review of last night's episode. I saw it on cnn.com

they would have been penalized last night because it could affect the outcome of who comes in last. They have people at every leg of the race that we don't see watching for things like this. Had any of the couples made an error it would have been reported to Phil.

KathrynT Mar 23rd, 2005 06:41 PM

I was hoping Patrick might say something nice at the end about his mom as she obviously is a nice person and cares so much for him. Sadly, it was not to be.

peterboy Mar 24th, 2005 09:20 AM

"they are celebrities and CBS celebrities"

So there we have it...the new celebriities...reality show celebrities.

Oh Ray and your unkind remarks about the older contestant.

Ray has a lot to learn like; if you are really lucky and really careful maybe someday you'll get to be an old fogey yourself.

I don't care so much about who wins the race as long ad the older couple beat Ray.

Madison Mar 24th, 2005 10:56 AM

Peterboy - I agree. I would love to see the older couple beat Ray as well. What a wonderful thougt.

In this week's People magazine (4/4) on page 37 there's an article on Rob called "Why I love...The Amazing Race's Rob Mariano.

Marilyn Mar 24th, 2005 07:29 PM

Do you think they would give me equal time to write "Why I Hate ... The Amazing Race's Rob Mariano"?

makemyday Mar 25th, 2005 03:21 AM

You must be gay.
Only the two gay guys and the eliminated young gay whiner displayed so much hatred for Rob and Amber.

Cassandra Mar 25th, 2005 05:17 AM

Despicable comment, makemyday.

Marilyn Mar 25th, 2005 08:23 AM

Not really worthy of a reply, Cassandra. I thought we were directing our vitriol on this thread only at TAR contestants. :-D

Madison Mar 25th, 2005 08:23 AM

Marilyn, you should write a rebuttal to People Magazine. Who knows it may be published.

With Rob and Amber either you love them or you hate them. Actually Amber is okay, it's Rob that I think is soooo amusing. He has A+ street smarts.

makemyday Mar 25th, 2005 08:36 AM

Well then, you'd better check all shown episodes of TAR7. There's hardly any negative comment about R&A, other than the ones that constantly emanates from the gay guys and the whining young gay guy.

Keith Mar 25th, 2005 09:02 AM

.

makemyday,

I have seen one or two of your other posts. Do you have any reason to be in this Forum, other than to try (and fail) to criticize others?

Keith
