Advice on itinerary

We are going to Ireland this Sept 1-12th, 10 nights and wondering about some spots not to be missed. We are 30, no kids, so don't mind a bit of party scene, but also like to keep it romantic, as we are newlyweds.
I'm thinking to fly into Shannon, arriving about 10-11 am, renting a car and heading to Doolin for your first night. My question, is this possible given the flight and just learning the new rules of the road? And what is another good spot to head to for the second night, if Dingle pen. is our eventual desination for night 3? Could we get in the Cliffs on the first day, or save for second day afternoon on our way to night 2 destination.

Thanks a ton

Dan

Dan - re-post your questions with a better title. Unless you put Ireland in the title, most of those w/ info will not likely read your thread.

You can easily drive to Doolin on the first day about 2.5 hrs at most. Maybe stop at Bunratty Castle area for lunch then make the drive. Most people usually head from Doolin straight to Dingle via the Tarbert - Killimer Ferry. Otherwise you could take the inland route and overnight in Adare.

Dan.. I think the idea of driving to Doolin on your arrival is a good idea. However, you will be tired and by the time you rent the car and so on you may want to just go to your b&b for a nap and that evening go to Gus O'Connor's for some terrific music and pub grub.I don't know if you have a room but the Seaview House is just a stone's throw from the pub. You can see info at www.kingsway.ieseaviewhouse. Then the next morning you can go to the Cliffs of Mohr. We had a clear day and it was terrific. You can walk for about 2 miles along the cliffs. You may also think about going on the ferry to the Aran Islands or do some shopping at the Doolin Craft Store. If your there another night the Doolin Cafe had wonderful food but it is tiny and you need res. I agree with using the Killimer/Tabert Ferry to head to Dingle. It is about a 20 min. ride that runs every 30 min. We used N67 to Killimer then N69 toward Tralee, N86 to R560 to the Connor Pass then straight down into Dingle. You can stop on the pass and there is a terrific panaramic view of Dingle Bay. We stayed at the Duinin House in Dingle http://homepage.tinet.ie/~pandaneligan. The Neligans were charming and the breakfast room was all glass with a nice view. Pat does a great Irish breakfast! Dingle was fun. The Dingle Pub is picture perfect and the Small Bridge Pub had great music. We ate at the Smokehouse and the jewelry at the Brian DeStaic shop on the way out of town is special. The Slea Head drive is terrific. We stopped for a picnic lunch at Ventry Beach and then did the drive. You will stop at the Gallorus Oratory (1300 years old)along the way. We were in Dingle 2 nights then went to Killarney. It is a nice town. Applecroft House (poets corner room) was very pretty. Good location for walking into town. Toured Muckross House and drove the Ring of Kerry. Agian if the weather is good a beautiful sight. I booked all our rooms ahead on the internet. Most b&b's took cash but there are atm's everywhere. The driving is a bit nerve-racking but we made out fine. Just keep in mind to double the time you would expect to drive here in the US and you will be fine.

Kinsale is a must! On the coast just south of Cork...My husband and I (also 30) stayed an extra night! Wonderful pubs and a lovely town!
