Accom in Apt, Provence
I have 4 days in Provence in the last week in Feb 2007. Considering making Apt as a base to explore nearby towns. Does Apt make a good base and could someone recommend accommodation, up to Euro 150 per night.

PS Been to St Remy, Les Baux, Oppede, Rousillon, Menerbes, Bonnieux and L'Isle-sur-la-Sorge back in 2004. Would like to visit Arles, Avignon, Apt, The Camargue and other small towns this time and perhaps revisit some of the above.

Try Kevin's place just a little north of Apt - and in a much prettier setting than Apt. Surrounded by vineyards.

swagman, you could make day trips from the Apt area to Avignon, Arles, and the Camargue, but that makes me wonder if you should consider a more westerly base. If you were in St-Rémy or Les Alpilles, for example, you'd be closer to the places mentioned above. You could also take a day to revisit some of those Luberon hill towns you've already seen.

Another place closer to Arles is Patricia's (a regular poster) PBProvence's place. I stayed there a few years ago so don't remember her rates.

it's so ridiculous we can't mention regular posters who have places to rent like, carlux, sheila, blackduff, David_in Paris and we all know that Keven, St Cirq and Coco have places to rent and I forget who else, I wish I had a copy of my original thread, I no longer have a printer.

Thank you for all your input.
Anselm I do agree with you that staying somewhere west would be more convenient. We based ourselves in St Remy during our last visit. We will be driving down from Geneva/Lyon, we considered staying in Avignon but have to say we are averse to staying in big cities. Can you suggest a spot other than St Remy and Avignon?

Hi Swagman,
I understand about not wanting to stay in Avignon. It isn't the easiest place to get in and out of.
An alternative might be Eygalières. We have friends that rent a gîte nearby and they love it. I spent a few hours in the town and found it attractive. Unfortunately, I can't recommend good accommodation, as we usually rent houses by the week.
