9 day Azores itinerary help
Hi friends,
Wife and I have a tentative date for an Azores visit for 3rd week in September. We are looking to chill, eat great food, hike among awesome scenery and maybe a whale watch. Am also considering taking a day to hike Pico. What islands would you folks incorporate into just 9 days. One thought was Terciera, Pico and Faial seeing they are so close together. Would that be too much and if not, how would you divide the time. Is September a good month weather wise? Thank you all in advance.
Cheers!

I can recommend Faial and Terceira as good bases, and Pico as a day trip from Horta (Faial) as it's just a short trip across to Pico.
I'd recommend a trip to Sao Jorge via the ferry, then catch a cab up to the top of the volcano and walk down alongside the caldera to the shore. Turn left and walk along (it's very up and down) to a dn through a small village and eventually you'll end up at a small bar.
We did that walk on a hot day and took 4 or 5 hours. We had three beers at the bar, that didn't touch the sides.
Weather in the islands is a bit unpredictable as you shouldn't forget that you're in the middle of the Atlantic. We whale watched on a rib out of the small harbour in Faial on a lovely day, but when we got out into the open sea, the swell was running at about 6 feet so you need to be a good sailor.
