6 month road trip round Europe with dog!

Hi there, my hubby and I are taking 6 months off next year (April to Oct) to travel from the UK around Europe. We will be in a motorhome (mid size) and will have our collie sized dog with us. Our current thinking is to drive across Holland, Germany, through the Balkans, ferry to Italy, do the whole of Italy, South of France, Spain and then back up through France to the UK.

A few questions I am hoping you can help me with:
1. does the above seem reasonable as a 'doable' route or is it too ambitious? I am the only driver and only really want to do one 'big' i.e. 300-400 kms drive per week but happy to do lots of pottering inbetween.

2. Any advice on dog friendliness or otherwise of the places we are planning to visit, any links to other forums that cover this would be much appreciated.

3. Any must do places, particularly for Germany and the Balkans as we have never been to either of those regions. We are pretty well versed in Italy and France but again any great campsite recommendations etc. would be fab.

I appreciate this is a lot to ask but there is no harm in trying! Many many thanks in anticipations.

You need to check the visa requirements.

There are websites for motorhome travelers that can probably give you better advice about how to plot such a journey for maximum efficiency.

Sorry, Visa requirements for what? We have UK/EU passports so don't have any issues providing we only visit EU countries. You don't happen to know the name of any websites do you, the only one I can find is viamichelin which doesn't seem to be able to cope with the multiple options. Many thanks.

sorry misskittywoo, I actually meant to delete that once I realized you were traveling from the UK, but hit the button too soon. I realize you won't have visa problems.

No, I don't have links to motorhome sites but I think you'll find them without much trouble by experimenting with google search strings. There are clubs as well as websites.

I suggest them because in Italy (where I live) you will need something other than standard tourist advice.

PS: You should begin googling with an obvious search string like "traveling with a motor home around europe"
