5 nights driving Ireland - into Dublin, out of Shannon
My husband and I will be traveling through Ireland in a car for 5 nights after spending 5 nights in Scotland. We'll be landing in Dublin and staying a night there car-less to have our "city" time. Other than that, we want to drink beer, sing with the locals in pubs, see the Cliffs of Moher, and any other culturally fabulous things! I hear Kinsale is a great little city to see? Any suggestions for routes or must stop spots? We're up for pretty much any ideas. Thanx in advance!

Four days to see the Cliffs of Moher [west Ireland] and Kinsale [east Ireland] is not much time unless you want to be in the car a lot. And in that case, you wouldn't have as much time to drink beer and sing in local pubs and see other culturally fabulous things.
Ireland is a small country sizewise, but it can take considerably longer to get from one place to another than we are used to in the US [if that is where you are from]. Usually the recommendation is an average of 35 mph on the scenic roads.
I would pick one place and stay there for four days, with sides trips to various points of interest. I prefer a slower pace of travel.
I'm not a fan of the Cliffs of Moher. Way too expensive, touristy and not that great of a view anymore. However, there is lots to do around that area.
Lucky you - traveling to Scotland and Ireland! Hope your travels are happy and safe.

Tony, the subject line says "out of Shannon" but I think into Cork and out of Shannon makes sense. And instead of the Cliffs of Moher I would recommend Loop Head. (Not sure the Cliffs qualify as Culturally Fabulous Things especially since all the changes).
Or how about into Knock and out of Shannon? Lots to do in that area, also.

So, I've heard from you guys a couple times that the Cliffs have gone through some "changes". Does that mean it's not worth going? I'm from the west coast of the US in Oregon where we have a rocky, tumultuous coast. I was wondering if it would be that much different from my long weekends.... Too touristy?

BTW - I think we can change the arrival city, but we're already booked out of Shannon since we leave for Scotland in two weeks. Aer Lingus and RyanAir only fly to Dublin from Edinburgh so I figured we're stuck starting there.
I'll check out Loop Head jaja!
engolive, I agree with the slower pace, but I'm not sure when we'll get to go back!

Having just done a similar albeit longer trip you may be interested to read my 'yet to be finished' trip report. But I have finished the Ireland section. I'm glad I've seen the Cliffs of Mohr but we weren't there very long............I was a bit 'disappointed.

I would either concentrate your time around Galway and visit Connemara (we loved the little seaside town of Clifden!), the Aran Islands and the Cliffs of Moher. Or you could concentrate your time around the Ring of Kerry and Dingle.
