We actually found it cheaper to buy a roundtrip Chunnel ticket than a one-way and so I have 2 tickets from London Waterloo to Paris Gare du Nord. Unfortunately, they needed to be dated and cannot be changed. The date is 20 July (2005).

Am I correct that you bought 2 1-way tickets, found it was cheaper to buy 2 RT tickets, and instead of turning your 1-way tickets in for a refund you are giving them away?

Ira - that isn't what I understood peregrina to mean.

They bought 2 R-T tickets but only need the Paris to London legs. So they are offering the unused London to Paris portions to anyone who can use them.

Janis is correct. We used the first leg (Paris to London), but we do not plan to use them.

And YES, they are free!

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all Eurostar tickets issued in the names of the individual passengers? I know ours are, with the directions to "Bring your passport or other valid travel documents."

I am looking at my Eurostar tickets that will take us from London to Paris. Each has our name on it and the instructions on the pamplet indicate a "valid passport (and visa if appropriate)or a national identity card for E.U. nationals is requried for all journeys on Eurostar". You may be able to give the tickets away, but I would bet they takers won't be able to use them. I too, have a round trip ticket that I am tossing the return half portion.

Hey, it's worth a try. If I were going to be going LON-PAR around then, I'd accept them with gratitude and hand them in at Waterloo.

All they can say is "no," after all. Then I say, "What!? Did my TA give me someone else's tickets. Guess I'll have to buy some replacements and get this straightened out when I get back."

If you arrive at the station and find the tickets are unusable, then you will have to buy the very expensive tickets sold on the date of departure, and you will have missed your own chance to get a cheap deal by booking in advance.

Hello All,

There are no names on these tickets. I have checked several times. You will will need your passport when "checking in", but I think that is more for immigration since GB and France are both EU countries. I really don't want to inconvenience anyone, but I hate to see these go to waste.

Ah these folks who are probably so honest willing to cheat, actually steal money from Eurostar - principals are so easily compromised? Even the use of the day return for one way is cheating. What's the difference between shoplifting at the supermarket or shoplifting from Eurostar?

The difference is that supermarkets have the same prices for everyone, while Eurostar seems to be trying to rip-off tourists by charging more for one-way tickets than they charge for round trips.

tracy - about Eurostar 'ripping off' people - in your way of thinking then Eurostar should never charge more than $94 for any of its second-class round trip or one-way tickets? They are already losing money? Au contraire - eurostar is pricing to sell at what it deems the market price a day return, filling empty seats at what is a below-average cost of a seat in general - i don't see at all how you consider this 'ripping off'? Fuzzy thinking to me.

And whilst on the subject of talking nonsense, I think that you'll find that the word is principLEs not principALs. Completely different words.
