10th Anniversary in night in Paris - Where to Stay?
My husband and I just decided to take a trip to Europe to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We'll be bringing our 3 year old son along to Brussels, but my family living there has offered to watch him so we can spend 2 full days in Paris.
Neither of us has ever been to Paris before, and I know that's not enough time to see everything we'll want to see or do. But for this post I'd like to focus on where to stay. Since we only have 1 night, location will be imperative, but we'd also like something romantic since we're celebrating. We're trying to keep this hotel expense to around US$500, but are willing to spend up to US$600 for the night if it would really make a difference.
I'd love to be centrally located to some of the bigger sites, but we also want to be able to just leave the hotel and go for a stroll to a cafe.

You could look at the Pavillon de la Reine in the Marais. It's actually part of the Place des Vosges, in the apartments originally built for the queen of France. It's at the top of your budget. Convenient to the #1 Metro, which will take you to the Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, etc. Or you could walk to pretty much anything you'd want to see in a day.
On the Left Bank, look at the Relais Christine. Very pretty, tucked into a courtyard on a tiny street a couple of blocks from the Seine. Also excellent for walking. Less expensive than the Pavillon.
This is an aspirational post, as I've never stayed in either of these hotels but really want to.

When is your anniversary / what are your travel dates? It can really swing rates depending on time of year and other "levels" of hotels may be available to you in early December ahead of the holiday peak than in September - hard to advise otherwise.
Also, anything you two really would like to visit or see during your first visit? Mindful of your current plans for a 1 night stay, if there's one main attraction or offering, you might want to shade towards hotels within walking or quick cab/metro distance to ensure you'll have time for it.
Types of hotels that can swing into your price point depending on time of year:
-Raffles Le Royal Monceau
-Park Hyatt Paris Vendome
-Prince de Galles
Other nice/romantic options to look into that are often at or below your price range:
-Relais Christine
-Hotel d'Aubusson
-L'Hotel
-Le Pavillion de la Reine
Paris has tons of hotels that are charming and romantic and your budget is pretty generous, so I'm sure others will have lots of suggestions.
If you're coming from Brussels after dropping off your son, with one night in Paris you can get close to two full days. First Thalys train from Brussels to Paris departs at 6:43 or 7:43 AM (depending on day of week). That gives you most of a full day, one night, and the following day, the last train from Paris to Brussels will be around 20:55 or 21:25 (depending on day of the week). If you could stretch to spend 2 nights in Paris rather than 1, that might be better for a first timer looking to balance sightseeing and relaxing and celebrating your anniversary.

I love the 6th arrondisement for cafes, boutiques and strolling. Metro access is good and so it!s easy to get to the attractions you want to see.
Uptake a look at:

Esprit St Germain
If you want a large hotel, we enjoyed the Le Grand Hotel Intercontinental on the Roght bank ( near Opera Garnier).

Have visited to check out for future stays, excellent properties:
RELAIS CHRISTINE
HOTEL D' AUBUSSON
IMO, Left Bank is more charming, great for strolling, cafes, shops, close to The Seine for the boats, and close to most of what you want to see.
Right Bank, huge, high-end hotels, shops, long city blocks with huge buildings,More big city feel with wide, traffic filled streets in most places.
Montmartre & Marais, kind of seedy in most places--good to visit but I have stayed in The Marais and never again.
That said, it's just one persons opinion. Many love the Right Bank, Montmartre & The Marais and I'm sure their are some wonderful places to stay. Just depends on your style.

Thank you all for your responses. Our trip is in early September, so availability is certainly a concern.
It seems that we'd want to stay in the left bank from what I'm reading. We're still planning our to do wish lists, but we prefer smaller, boutique hotels and are really looking for more charm than posh.
Our plan is pretty much what inspiredexplorer mentioned; first train to Paris from Brussels, and late train back the following day. My family willing volunteered for two days/1 night, so I don't want to be greedy and ask for more. Plus we want to spend enough time with said family who's living in Brussels.
It seems like I have some homework to do today. I will take a look at some of these suggestions. Thank you all again.
