? about vignette - Switzerland

Hi All,

We will be driving from from Rielasingen, Germany to Stein am Rhein, CH on the L191; and leaving SaR on the Oehningerstrasse (L192).

Will a road tax sticker be required?

Will we be able to purchase one at the border crossing on this back road?

Thanks.

The stickers are for the autoroutes, not back roads. You can get them at post offices and gas stations. Since I have one I've never had to buy one at the border stop. They cost around 40 francs.

It is possible to travel through Switzerland without using the limited access highways. It's not always easy, but I have done it from Italy to Luzern and on to France. If your intent is to simply drop down from Germany to Stein am Rhein, I would try to avoid using the autoroute. However, if the autoroute is a continuation of the autobahn, you must remember to exit the autobahn in Germany to proceed on secondary roads because otherwise you will find yourself on the Swiss autoroute.

Thanks for the responses.

I thought that I would be OK for SaR.

Hi S,

It will be a long while.

I'm just starting planning for Sept, 2009

Ahhh well...nice to see someone else plans as far in advance as me!

We're leaving May 12, 2009 for one week in Switzerland visiting family and then off to Germany for another week. I can't wait. I can taste the schnitzel mit pommes frites already!

Happy Planning!
