Which airport to fly into and where to stay in New York???
We are taking a cruise from New York and the prices for air are very similar to all the airports. Which is closest to the Passenger Ship Terminal? Are there hotels nearby? We are thinking of going in a day early just to be safe since we couldn't get cruise line air. Is traffic easier from one airport than the other? Any suggestions from someone that knows this area would be great as we have never been there.

Your best bet would be to fly into Newark or LaGuardia. Also you might want to try and get flights so you would be leaving the airport before or after rush hour. The PST is on the west side of Manhattan between 45-55 St. or so, so look for a hotel in midtown on the west side. Post again if you have further questions. Have a great trip.

We live in NY. My suggestion is that you look at a map. I would say all three airports are equally difficult. A cab would be easier to get from JFK or LaGuardia. Both are in Queens. The pier is in Manhattanat 52nd street(The whole area). Don't waste too much time deciding which airport - you need a cab fromm all of them. There is a possibility of taking the airport train but a cab will be better and cabs here do not charge by the passenger, they charge by time and distance. Avoid taking a cab at rush hours, by any means posssible. As for hotels which are affordable, I can not help you there but if you have a day to spend in NY, check out the Statue of Liberty and the rest would depend on where you are from? Feel free to e-mail me with specific questions.

We are doing the same thing and need pretty much the same info. We sail on Saturday so want to arrive on Friday. I can't even get the exact address of the cruise ship terminal. We have decided so JFK but don't know which of the other two. Want to maybe spend a little time touring and possibly a play if we can get tickets then stay somewhere handy to either Broadway or the ship. Prefer under $200. if we can. I'll check your responses on the US board but if any cruisers here can help that would be great.

The NYC Passenger Ship Terminal is located along the West Side Highway from about West 45th St. until West 55th Street. The West Side Highway is after 12th Avenue which is as far west as you can go before stepping into the Hudson River. If you look at a Manhattan map, it may make more sense to you. If you told a cab driver to take you to the cruise ships, they might understand that better than "Passenger Ship Terminal." As far as hotels, it would probably be most convenient to stay on the West Side around the theatre district

It really does not matter where you stay in manhattan. If you are on a budget there are many hotels on the east side/midtown that may more than make up for the minor additional time it takes to get to the ship. I assume that you will leave plenty of time to get to the ship so it really would not matter. If you fly into newark it is less of a hassle but will be more expensive getting to manhattan. <BR>
