What does a Cabin Guarantee Mean?

What does it mean when you book a cruise, and the agent tells you that it's a cabin
Category 4 guarantee?
We were able to secure what we thought was a good deal on Celebrity's Infinity for July, and it was cheaper to book a Cat. 4, which is an outside cabin versus a Cat. 10, which was an inside cabin! I heard that guarantee means that they will assign your cabin when you check in as opposed to giving it out in advance. Also, if one has a "guarantee" does
that mean that there's no likelihood of an upgrade? I'd appreciate any input on this subject.

It means that you are guaranteed a cabin on that sailing. The location of your cabin will be at the cruise lines' discretion. Your lowest cabin will be a CAT 4 and the highest is up to the cruise line. A person should only book a guarantee if they do not care about location, size, view obstruction, etc. Some upgrades are not that good especially if you're under the dining room, or a lounge, or the lido where deck chairs are dragged very early in the morning.

Thanks, Texas, for the reply! That
answered my question. Now, I hope we
don't end up in some loser cabin -- oh, well. The Cat. 4 is the highest category of the windowed cabins, and the
only ones up from there would be with a veranda, but based on some reviews of so called "upgrades", we'd probably
be better off just where we are, as some people complained that the sky suites were too shady all the time because of the lifeboats casting shadows or something, and the crumbs from the above outdoor restaurant were
always being emptied onto the veranda where they were, so I know what you mean about so-called "upgrades."\\
Hopefully all will go well.
Hi Dana,

I am a travel agent and, for the life of me, I can not understand how you got a Cat 4 for less money than a Cat 10. Guarantee or not. You must be mistaken.

You know Celebrity cabins are numbered the exact opposite than other cruise lines. Cat 12 bottom.

In any event. I always book a customer in the lowest inside or outside cabins with a guarantee. There is a 99% chance of an upgrade.

I doubt they will upgrade you to a cabin under the galley or next to the disco. It would make for very bad customer relations.

Have your travel agent call the cruise line two weeks before sailing when the cabin assignments start to come out. If you do not care for your upgrade, go back down.

Paul

Yes, indeedy, Paul, it's a definite\
Cat. 4 guarantee, which we are getting for -- are you ready -- $1,200 per person, plus airfare, and the brochure\
list price is $2,900 p.p, which the price next to that as $1,900 p.p., and there's absolutely no mistake, as I've read the paperwork, gave a deposit, and Celebrity told my travel agent that it's a promotion for Californians. And
we were quoted a much higher price for the inside cabin, than the outside, because I was right there when the travel agent was speaking over the phone to the Celebrity people, and the first quote came in a few hundred higher than the second quote which was a guaranteed categ. 8-4, so I chose 4, because it was quoted at the same price as an 8,7,6, or 5, and voila, I have my
outside window cabin!! Maybe I'll get a veranda, huh? At any rate, I felt it was a good deal, and I've checked on different web-sites and I haven't been able to find a comparable deal for that cabin, and I do have it in writing!!
Hi Dana,

Boy, you Californians get all the deals. Maybe they feel sorry for you because you have no electricity.

Yes, at times the cruise lines have a regional promotion.

Sounds good to me, if I knew the date, I could check it for my customers. Of course we are out here in the rich state of Connecticut ..... no one feels sorry for us.

Paul
