Very Long Crusies
We have done a number of cruises in the range of 15 days which we have always enjoyed. As retirement approaches we have seen a number of extended cruises 30 to 120 days. It seems to me that you would have to have a different attitude and approach to extended cruises. When we enjoyed the formal aspects of the 10 to 15 day cruises, I not sure I want 60 formal meals. Anyone have experience with extended cruises?

My father-in-law did 2 120 day cruises and loved each one of them. Remember there are several dining options on every ship and you don't always have to go to the dining room for dinner. Even on our 12 day cruises sometimes we go up to the "Windjammer" for dinner. It is nice just to have a change.

The extended cruisers that I know certainly have different attitudes:
- They are extremely relaxed. They can spend hours soaking in their luxurious bathtub while sipping a bottle of champagne.
- Often they do not leave ships while in port. When we were in Rio de Janeiro, one of these extended cruisers stayed on board and told me "I have been a dozen times to Rio. I prefer staying on board and read a book."
- Of course, after the third Captain's dinner it gets boring. Many of the extended cruisers dine on their suites in privacy.
- The extended cruisers tend to form a social circle of their own. Often, they socialize on appointment only.
- In general, on a very long cruise you behave like a resident in a gated community rather than a tourist.

Appreciated the responses. That was the direction of my thinking that extend cruises would require a different approaches than shorter cruises. Would you bond more with the crew or does the crew change frequently? Even on 10 to 15 day cruises we will skip a formal meal or two.
