Pro or con? Shipboard walkie-talkies
Families, couples, some adult groups are taking walkie-talkie communicators on cruise ships these days. Do they enhance or diminish the shipboard experience for the users as well as for other cruisers?

If you have kids that you want to keep track of, take walkie talkies--<BR><BR>We saw then all over the place-- it is more for the parent's looking after their kids- than the other way around...<BR><BR>

We also found them helpful on a Disney cruise when the early risers went on the Disney island beach to save a spot and we stayed in touch with the slower moving members of the family still on the ship. I agree, they're a big help keeping track of kids.

We are all adults and I wanted to kill my brother when he brought walkie talkies on the ship... we were all taking the parents for their 50th anniversary.. I would say they did come in handy keeping track of everyone but you have to be careful not to talk too loudly or call each other for trivial stuff... just like cell phone etiquette I guess. All in all, we could have done without them and I was concerned that we could seem sort of obnoxious to other passengers.

It appears the first seafarers crossed open oceans at least 30,000 years ago. Folks have been doing it ever since.<BR><BR>In the last few years, there's a trend toward being in contact 24/7 no matter what the setting, even though its a matter of record that the human race has survived without them and that they're noisy and distracting and irritating to everyone within earshot.<BR><BR>Common courtesy should prevail. ColletteRI said it very well: "You have to be careful not to talk too loudly or call each other for trivial stuff... just like cell phone etiquette I guess. All in all, we could have done without them and I was concerned that we could seem sort of obnoxious to other passengers."<BR><BR> <BR><BR><BR>

Well, once again, it is not the technology or having, but the people who are using. There are times when communication is needed, and times when we can do without.<BR><BR>If you are inconsiderate in one thing, you will be inconsiderate in almost everything.
