I have heard a lot of negativity about RCCL over the past year. been doing some reasearch for a cruise possibly in spring/summer 09. any suggestions on who is a better cruise line

really? do tell? I have to say i am nervous about cruising for the simple fact that you can get royally scr****. if you are in a resort and its not working out you can switch but what if your ship really is a stinker? considering princess for alaska in a few years.

I really think it depends on the particular sailing, the crew, and other passangers. We have sailed quite a few different lines. In our experience of the budget lines, Carnival has been very good, RCCL has been fair/poor and NCL has been horrible. However, we have friends that love RCCL and hate Carnival.
I really just look for the best deal and hope for the best.
(though for NCL, I was warned and I should have listened. Clothing and other small items were stolen from our room on our Alaska trip and we didn't even get a decent apology from the front desk or a response when I wrote a letter)

Jimingso: i have done some reasearch thanks for the link.
221515: i have only been on one cruise and it was carnival had the time of my life only thing i could complain about was one of the icecream self servers did not work. my ex husband will ONLY go with royal car. i believe you are right it is quite often the luck of the draw. i will say the cruisecritic sites are very helpful.

I agree about cruisecritic and IMHO you have a great chance of having a terrific time. No cruise line is perfect but the mass market lines all do a good job overall. JM2C.

I guess it's hit or miss! Or maybe depends on the destination.

I took one to Mexico, and would certainly go with them again! There were some minor things, but overall I loved the cruise.

Check out cruise critic and then also buy a Fodor's book on cruising. I've cruised three previous time and I still love reading all the info on the ships I can get my hands on. The book really breaks down each line and the different classes of ships within the line. Very helpful. We are cruising in March on the Miracle, can't wait first balcony!!! We've also sailed Princess, but we prfer Carnival so far. Good luck the shopping is half the fun.
