NCL STAR

Now that January is almost over, we are anxious to hear about life on the Star. We are booked in a few months and hope our decision is a good one. Plus we keep seeing discount deals at lower prices than ours! All info appreciated.

We sailed on the Star on the Inaugaural cruise in Hawaii. It was quite an experience. There were lots of problems,eg. new crew, new ports, I see already that they have changed the itinerary from Kona to Hilo due to Tendering problems. The ship is big, the freestyle dining we did notappreciate like. We like the old ways and we are not that old but have sailed on 15 cruises. The weather was great. Hopefully things have improved for NCL in Hawaii, because they will lose a lot of business if they do not get their act together.

Thanks for your reply. Kind of gives me pause. Especially after reading some earlier comments. Do you think it was breakin stuff or poor management?

I sailed on the Star in early January. It is a beautiful ship. I have a balcony cabin on deck 9. The cabins are a nice size and well-appointed. Try to avoid lower deck inside cabins if you're prone to seasickness. There is a lot of motion on the ship. The waters in Hawaii are rough and as such prevented us tendering to shore on the Big Island. NCL has since changed so that they dock in Hilo and passengers walk right off the boat to shore. Freestyle cruising is great because you can eat in several dining rooms, not just the main dining rooms. There are some good reviews on www.cruisecritic.com. Overall, the service was very good. Sure this is a new ship and there were some bumps in the road...but I think they are past that for now. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.
