The Crabby Old Guy and I are considering trying one of the top tier cruise lines. What is the difference and which line would you recommend?

Hi Savvy,
Given the amount of money you will have to spend to cruise any of these lines, you are almost certain to enjoy whichever you choose. There are some differences, however. On Regent and Seabourn, tips and wine at meals are included in the cruise price, but not so on Crystal. Regent has open seating and I think Seabourn does too, but Crystal does not. Crystal's ships are larger and therefore have more shops, etc. and emphasize entertainment more, but, of course, also have more passengers. Service is impeccable on all of them. I believe Regent's cabins are slightly larger. All of these are simply differences in style, and I repeat that you can't go wrong on any of them if you can pay the freight. Each has many, many fans.

Hi,
Robin- When I first started writing under the personna of The Savvy Old Lady, my dear husband dubbed himself The Crabby Old Guy. Our five kids thought this was hysterical and it has become a teasing term of endearment. "Crabby" is a wonderful cruising partner and my soulmate for over thirty years. FYI, I have signed all my emails "Hugs" since I first started using the Internet. I always thought if more people did and meant it the world would be a better place to live in.
Renaissanceman- Thank you for the info...didn't know that wine and tips weren't included in the price on Regent and Crystal. However, after paying the "freight" what's a few more bucks LOL.
Jacketwatch- You always put a smile on my face. Even TCOG got a chuckle out of your posting.

I love Regent. Take a look a the cabin sizes (amazing) all with balconies (except on Navigator). Open sitting which is divine, no supplements for the specialty restaurants (Crystal adds a service charge), no formal nights.
Out of 114 cruises since 1968, my two on Regent were the only ones I consider superb in every way.
I Seabourn has no balconies and not much in the way of facilities. I really love a great gym, sauna, etc. and I have to have my balcony. They are just too small for my taste.
Regent has large ships (did I mention the awesome cabins?) with many things to do.
I love that good wines are included as well as tips and that there are no restaurant surcharges. I like the extended times in port. I loving having dinner at a table for 2 one night and with friends another. I love the total flexibility.
Let us know what you decide.

I agree....give Regent a try and you may never want anything else. The tips, and liquor IS INCLUDED on Regent. It is really nice never signing chits! I think the service, food and cabin size really sets Regent apart. Big enough with plenty to do but not too large either. The Voyager and the Mariner are my favorite of the Regent ships (all have balconies).

I haven't tried two of them - but we have taken Crystal to the Med - and it was an absolutely perfect experience. I think, as people said, they're all good.... I'd figure out the destination you want to go to - then determine which ships go there...
