Is NCL having problems?

I've noticed that on cruise auction sites like egghead, the majority of the cruises being auctioned off are on NCL. On some days as much as 90%. In the past month I've gotten emails from major sellers offering 7 day cruises for $449...again on NCL.
I hope they are not in trouble since I like the line and have sailed with them before. Maybe they're just having trouble filling their ships since their is so much competition.

I think they can't fill their ships because the big lines are taking too many passengers. NCL needs to work on their image in my estimation. They don't have a bad image, they just don't have AN image.

NCL doesn't have the mega ships like Carnival and RCL (thank heavens)..their biggest so far is the Sky which is I think 2500... Just read a review of the NCL Sea or Wind where the people had a fabulous time.. Frankly, I met people who were on the same cruise as I was who bought it at auction for $200.00 for a cruise to Bermuda...you can't rent a decent hotel room in New York for that..

I suspect that the $499 e-mail specials are for the Norway, which has a large number of sub-standard cabins from her old-days as the two-class transatlantic liner SS France. These inside cabins are tiny (some are 66 sq ft!) with upper/lower berths. They were made for people who just wanted no-frills transportation on the SS France between the USA and Europe. However, if one is the type who doesn't need a lot of space or just uses the cabin for sleeping, these cabins can provide a means to go on a cruise for lots of folks who are on a budget!

NCL is not having problems, but want to fill up their ships. I booked 2 passengers recently on the Majesty on the 7 day southern Carib for just $214 pp plus port charges- inside cabin! I have others who are sailing in April on the MAjesty for $564 pp and are guaranteed in a Cat A outside midship! Great deals to take advantage of

NCL is fine, all of the cruise lines have troubles with bathrooms, etc from time to time and any good travel agent will make sure if you have a bad time, you get something back for it. I have booked several people on NCL for great rates, I have some doing Europe this summer for under $999 for 12 nights which is a pretty good price, just know what ship and itinerary and cabin before buying online so you know what you are getting, fortunatley the Norway is going away soon,

GEORGE YOU ARE SO VERY WRONG WITH YOUR ANSWER RE:NCL. THE TRIP WAS BOOKED BY LIBERTY TRAVEL,MAYS LANDING,N.J.THEY COULD CARE LESS ABOUT OUR PROBLEMS. THE STAFF ON NCL ADMITTED THE SHIP WAS NOT READY TO SAIL BUT IT WAS FULLY BOOKED SOOO.ONE COUPLE HAD NO AIR COND. THE ENTIRE TRIP ,5 DAYS INTO THE TRIP NCL BROKE DOWN AND GAVE THEM AN ELECTRIC FAN! IHAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY CRUISES YOU HAVE TAKEN..WEHAVE CRUISED ALL OVER EUROPE ,CARIB.,ETC. TOTAL ABOUT 12 TO 15 CRUISES. BELIEVE ME THIS SHIPP WAS THE PITS. I UDERSTAND OCCASIINAL TOLET PROBLEMS..THIS WAS CONSTANT,ALSO AIR COND.,BROWN WATER OUT OF FAUCETS A CONSTANT,WINDOWS SO DIRTY YOU COULD NOT DISTINGUISH NITE FROM DAY..CARPETS THAT SMELLED SO BAD..THEY WERE TRYING TO REPLACE THEM AS WE SAILED..WAKING US EARLY IN THE MORN.FOOD SO BAD IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO EAT..ARRIVING AT LEAST 1 HOUR LATE AT EVERY PORT..OH YES WE RECEIVED A LETTER AFTER WE ARRIVED HOME OFFERING US 100.00 OFF OUR NEXT CRUISE IF TAKEN IN THE YEAR TO COMPENSATE US FOR OUR PROBLEMS YOU STILL PLAN TO CRUISE WITH NCL???
Sorry George, of all the customers that have had serious problems with NCL, extremely few have ever recieved a pittance from NCL.

Travel agents can sell all the NCL cruises they like but here is one that has not sold them in 2 years.

Once they bring their prices up to the industry standards they will be able to maintain and staff their ships.

Toilets malfunction occassionally on other cruise lines but not continuously as on NCL.

Paul

Hi guys,

I think the real problem lies with LIBERTY TRAVEL. They seem to be in the habit of misrepresenting their cruise packages. I have been battling with them ever since they booked my honeymoon on 11/19/00. It was a complete disater, and nothing like what I asked for. And yes I agree, LIBERTY TRAVEL COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS! If you want to discuss this with me, feel free to e-mail me. Unlike most people who just give up I will pursue my problem until I get the answer I want. Maybe we can all help each other.

I WILL NEVER SAIL NCL again, don't care how cheap, it's not worth it. I am sold on RCI!

We sailed on the Leeward and the only thing positive is that we had a larger room than normal. Ship felt old and not clean. Decor was terrible - still in the early 70s burnt orange era. Dining room was bad. Food was terrible. We were traveling with our daughter who was 6 at the time. No special menu for kids and more often than not she didn't like what was being served. Kids program was just putting the kids in an empty (and I do mean empty - no chairs, tables, nothing) small conference room however the staff leading the program was good. Game room was shut down. Pools were tiny. Service was almost non-existent. The midnight buffets weren't worth going to. They cancelled one of the ports just so they could have a day at sea to work on the boat (we only had 3 ports to start with). I've seen better shows/performers in local theater - in fact, our daughter said she could sing better and she wasn't kidding. Because of the price there were lots of 'senior' cruises and all that goes with it - noise, smoking, hanging out in the hallways and stairs, drunken obnoxiousness. We spent more time in our cabin that I could ever have imagined that we would. And at the end we only got a little credit on-board the ship for our inconvience.

Ask yourself this question? Did you go to any of the other cruise boards to ask questions BEFORE you booked the cruise (forget travel agents, most are useless), did you do any investigating yourself? When somebody feels ripped off and disappointed I wonder if they did their homework before booking..

I was a first time cruiser who has just returned from NCL's the Wind and it was the best vacation I have ever had. I looked into everything I could find on the internet before I booked this cruise last June of 2000. We returned on March 31st and I am already looking into booking my next cruise on NCL for March of 2002. I had no idea what to expect after reading all the so-so reviews on the Wind. Let me say this....AWESOME. Everything from room(huge), to staff and service was the best. We did our own things for excursions, rented car in Cayman, Jeep in Cozumel and we did ok for ourselves. I can't wait to go cruising with NCL AGAIN..............If anybody has any other questions, just ask. Be glad to help anyway I can......
