Irene's aftermath
This is an article from the cruise critcis. It shared the reader's responses on how the cruise lines reacted to the uncertainties created by Irene.

There are some obvious "heroes" as they put it and it makes me re-think.my future bookiongs. I am just curious as to how many people will actually read this and re-think their loyalties to their cruise line of choice.
Interesting enough, the cruise lines that advertise the most on their board also received the most negative coverage.

What can I say - prepare for the worst, hope for the best.
I would not go by what refunds which company offered, but I would (and done in the past) go by the calendar trying to avoid Caribbean travel during hurricane season.
I wonder if there is a hurricane coverage? Thinking of going up north from Boston in Sept - Oct next year

"Thinking of going up north from Boston in Sept - Oct next year' Dayenu, dont think ...BOOK IT!!! Yes, you can run into a hurricane, but usually going from Boston to Bermuda....The ports are wonderful from Boston and if you go as far as Quebec, etc.. Portland, Halifax, St. John, Bar Harbor, etc. Not like the Caribbean at all with jewelry stores and touts outside the terminals.

I will start a search next week - have to confirm with 2 Fodorites, it will be a fun trip.
There is a port with Ha! Ha! in its name, I MUST see what that is LOL
Will be looking at September (preferable) or October (if September won't work out) and now leaning toward starting in Quebec going down to USA.

Other than Boston, Quebec City would be my favorite stop. Halifax comes close. The closest feel of being in Europe without being tehre is in Quebec City, espceially at the old city.
People take the New England trip for the fall color. I would say late September would be optimal time. Mid and late October could be cold (dare I say snow?). Been there once in late October. It was cold in Quebec and windy in Halifax.
Try McKelvie's or Salty's while in Halifax. Great local restaursnts, great seafood.
Parrotmom will probably give you a tour of Boston if you ask nicely ...

I should have called Larry and see if he wanted to meet us at the O'Hara for a beer when we got stuck there overnight back in May. We missed our connecting flight by 4 minutes! We were told that they will wait but didn't so we were stuck in O'Hara overnight
We will look you up in SF for sure, maybe Mr. D can take us all out to play the slut machines ...
