I have read other postings where similar upgardes were offered. This normally occurs when a ship is either overbooked or a large group wants to book a block of cabins and not enough are available.

This can be compared to the airlines offering compensation for voluntary being "bumped".

We booked a Thanskgiving Princess cruise. They offered us $200 shipboard credit plus an upgrade from inside to an outside cabin (no balconey) to switch. We had booked our own airfare and was reluctant to switch. They offered to throw in airfare but would only give us $100 shipboard credit. We declined the office. Another friend was on an Alaksa cruise. They were offered an outside cabin with a balconey and $500 shipboard credit. She asked for first class air and they gave it to her.

It was a Thanksgiving cruise that we had booked with Holland America also. They offered us an outside cabin to switch to a diffent cruise, but we counter-offered with a mini-suite. They accepted but I think the refund amount may have been reduced. At any rate, I'd accept if possible, Elsa. Having the balcony was great.

We booked a 7-day Eastern December cruise- inside cabin - originally on the Westerdam two years ago. About a month before the cruise, our TA called and said the ship was oversold and would we be willing to go a week later for 10 days with an outside cabin on the Ryndam for the same price. Since we live in FL and are very flexible - we said sure - it was a great experience and HAL treated us very well! It was our first HAL experience - we have taken 13 cruises to date.
