Just got an e-mail from Princess - they will refund my $100 fuel surcharge IN THE FORM OF ON-BOARD CREDIT.

NO WAY!!!!!!!!!

They charged my credit card, and this is where I want that credit!! I have a cabin credit already.

Any words from the wise on how to get my money back? Anybody with a success story of one phone call?

Faina, I'm not absolutely certain about this, but I think once you're on board you'll be able to withdraw your $100 in cash. Don't know if there's another way around this or not. Good luck!

Betsy, on a positive note, I've managed to find a thread on CruiseCritic discussing this refund. ALL ON MY OWN

It didn't help a bit, but I found it. None of the posters tried to get it back. Only those who's cruises are over got credit card refund or check in mail.

I will be the pioneer!!

NO

After talking to 2 people (and 12' on hold with one!) the answer was: only on-board credit.

I will need to look-up how much is the mandatory gratuity, and get the rest as casino tokens

Actually the mandatory tip is $10.00 pp/pd. That $100.00 will go fast. My RCI refund showed up as a credit on my CC statement BTW.

The tip is now $10.50 a day. And if you are in a suite, it is even higher ... you will spend the $100 in no time.

Pop is extra. Ice cream at the ice cream bar is extra. Booze is not included. You charge your duty free shopping purchases to your cabin. You charge your shore excursion to your cabin. At the end of the trip, the $100 may not cover much of anything.

We are not in a suite, regular cabin.

Pop? With those artificial sweeteners? Nope. Herbal tea, no sugar. Juice and coffee for breakfast.

Ice-cream is free in the afternoon, per their paperwork. Even if not, who cares, everybody raves about buffet desserts.

Booze? We don't care as we are wine drinkers, and not much of drinkers at that, and Princess allows wine on-board. Corckage fee $15 a bottle. 10 days... 2 bottles per trip will be enough for us.

Duty free shopping? Doubt it very much. Living in San Francisco, why lag glass and liquid, is there anything we can't buy at home? Sure, souvenirs from Alaska, not the ship's overpriced whatever.

Shore excursions? Not planning to buy any from the ship for now. A taxi ride to downtown, a bus ride to Mendenhall...

Have I covered everything

Yep ... you covereed it all ... The tip will be $73.50 per person at $10.50 per day. Mind you, it is optional so you can stiff them if so choose. Corkage at $20 for the 2 bottles so that came to $93.50. So, you will get some cash back from your $100 plus other on board credit that you might have.
I wouldn't take casino chips though as it is not a monety making proposition.

Is it slot machines you're trying to keep Mr. away, or...? I'd be very interested in cruising a ship with the other kind of machines!

Spurs, only the machines, dear, only the machines

Just love this mis-spelling. Although, going to the Creek Street in Ketchikan I'm not so sure we should stop at Dolly's house

Oh yes, the fabulous slut machines! It is all coming back to me now. How was that trip anyway? I don't believe I read the post on the trip. I did remember you posting the message asking about cashless cruising and casino. Did Mr. FainaAgain get lucky with the sl_ts?

Was that your first trip on a Princess? Obviously it was a good enough trip that you want to go back with them again.

Our last Princess trip was not as good as previous ones. There were cut back everywhere. However, they did solve my "eggs" problem and I don't have to ask for hot water to cook my own soft boil eggs.

By the way, which cruise are you hopping on next? Maybe I may run into both of you. We are booked into the Diamond for May and Ruby for November at this point. Teh price was right. Less than $1K for balconies.

Eschew, I was on one cruise only, by myself, from LA the short one to Ensenada on RCCL and loved it!

So now going with my husband, first on Princess for both, his first cruise ever.

Mr Again loves casinos, so if you read my posts before, they could've been about Vegas, South Tahoe, Reno or Palm Springs.

We're doing a round-trip from San Francisco sailing on June 6.

Good luck on the trip. June is a great time of year for Alaska. Round trip from San Franciso should be fun. We're going out of Vancouver .. northbound ... flying back form Anchorage. We made the same trip last year, except in September and it was COLD.

For whatever reason, I thought you were on Princes before. My mistake. I have reply to your another post regarding emergency notifications.

Please let me know about your trip as I am most curious about other's opinions. Especially now that I "almost" know you .... We have crusied with most other lines and seems to always go back to Princess even after some so so experiences.

We never have any really bad experience with any cruise lines. I guess it's what you want to get out of it. Lower your expectation, live the momemnt and enjoy. Nothing is ever going to be perfect. There must be something that we enjoyed about Princess comapred to other cruise lines that draw us back to them again and again. Somehow, we feel more relaxed and comfortable on their ships. And that's after they have lost our luggage last September in Anchorage and I have to call Anchorage (and pay LD charges) to get my bags back. The part time receptionist at the Anchorage office was most helpful and is the one responsible for getting my luggage back. The central office staff (1-800) was totally useless.

If you plan to take another trip with Princess, while on the ship, go to their on board future sales and pay for a future crusie deposit. You do not have to commit to a date and you can have your money back if you change your mind. What you will get extra by paying a deposit for future cruise on board is that you will get extra on board credit on top of your deposit when you take your next trip. A buck is a buck ...

Thank you, Eschew, I didn't know that I can get my deposit back! I will definitely look at their schedule!

And I always come back with a report

Regarding the staff on board... I hope they are better then those 2 on RCL!!

Just for the fun of it, I asked them what are the cruisetours in Europe they are selling. The best reply I got was this, and I am not kidding:

Cruisetours are the land tours you take in each port if you buy them on the cruise, but you can buy them in advance too.

HELLOOOO??? ANYBODY HOME?????

OK, just in case somebody doesn't know: cruisetours is a combination of a cruise and a several-days land tour.
